It's Yom Kippur, so...

I forgive all of you who may have been insensitive throughout the past year. Really, those for whom forgiveness would be required are unaware of this journal's existence, but oh well, might as well be safe. Hopefully, you will all forgive me for various sins, as well. After all, my act of fasting until this evening, though largely out of respect for my family's traditions, symbolizes my dedication to repentance in all of your eyes as well as the eyes of whatever higher power may or may not exist.
Anyway, let's see...what has gone on in my claustrophobic corner of the world since Tuesday morning? It's so difficult differentiating sometimes...when daily documentation is not made, the brain tends to scramble events somewhat. Alright; I remember now. Tuesday afternoon was my Biology lab, in which small group human anatomy presentations were scheduled. For my group, things did not go as planned, to say the least.
My group had signed up to present on the digestive system and diabetes, but the girl whose topic was the layout of the digestive system had been MIA since we'd been given the assignment. She, as well as one other group member, chose not to come to class at all. Nonetheless, my only remaining groupmate and I pledged to give the powerpoint presentation as thoroughly as possible. Unfortunately, there was a glitch in the powerpoint presentation, and my partner, Dominique, needed to drive home and make a fresh copy. Toward the end of class, it occured to me that she likely wouldn't be back in time, so I gave the presentation alone and with only a plastic model as a visual aid. It was frightening, but the class applauded -- my balls were admired. Yay. Dominique ended up showing up, as well. Sadly, class had adjourned a few mnutes prior. But she _did_ have the powerpoint presentation. We showed it to our TA in her office, and both got credit (hopefully As!)
That evening, par usual, Mike picked me up from campus. We visited Cyber City and discovered that Mike's Star Wars collection raked in several hundred dollars on Ebay. Hooray for nostalgic (and wealthy) gen-Xers! Afterward, Mike required a milking, so I satisfied his need.
Somewhere around 10:00, we visited the Westgate cinemas and took in "Waiting..." Not the best movie ever by any stretch, unless one is a lover and connaisseur of the high school grossout genre. Concerning the exploits of several waiters at a chain restaurant known as ShenaniganZ, there's nothing particularily new, or even really shocking about the film. The funniest moments, though, concern two white wannabe-gangsta busboys. The two even get their own rap video over the credits (sample lyrics: "I got more rhymes than Leanne","I'll rape you with a loaf of bread and make you cheat on Atkins".) I'd give "Waiting..." an overall C-.
After the movie, Mike and I drove home and fell into bed shortly thereafter. The next morning, typical rythms and routines were followed, despite it being Mike's 31st birthday. I went to class (we recieved a two-week extension on our "social issues" group project); he worked until three in the afternoon at "Opa!" After his work and my class, I treated him to a meal at Famous Dave's (a North Olmsted barbeque restaurant). The dinner is but half of his birthday present ... I asked him what upcoming concert he wants to see and ended up purchasing tickets to the Avenged Sevenfold show. If their general repertoire lives up to their kick-arse current single, I'll enjoy it. He knows he will; he has both the group's thus-released CDs.
After dinner, I studied for a short while as Mike played guitar. At 8:30, we drove to the East side and to the Workmen's Circle, where I had promised to put in a Kol Nidre service appearance. The service was very similar, it seemed, to most Yom Kippur services I've attended, but with a (thankful) lack of accordian music (there _Was_ an inept trombonist, but such was a welcome replacement.) After the service I BSed for a while with a 10-year-old boy (probably a future actor, comedian, or talk show host) who's travelling to Europe this holiday season with the Singing Angels youth choir. Meanwhile, Mike BSed with my mother. After saying goodbye to the parental and grandparental units, we left. We went home, I gave Mike his maintenance, and we went to bed after a while.
This morning was my computer lab. Today, we developed powerpoint presentations. Thankfully, this was one thing with which I was not completely unfamiliar. My presentation was a tongue-in-cheek work of irreverence entitled "Eternal Rewards: Postmortem Alternatives For the Discriminating Spirit". If anyone took offense, they didn't voice their objections.
Today, we're expected to put in another appearance at the Workmen's Circle Center, this time to break the fast of Yom Kippur. the event is a potluck dinner, so I made my (increasing in local notoriety) turtle fudge -- adapted to include white chocolate so that a blue frosting Jewish Star could be drawn atop. Oy gevalt. Calories, calories. :P
After the post-fast feast, Mike and I are planning on heading back tot he West Side, the Cleveland Public Theatre to be exact. "The Vampyres", a goth-rock musical by David Hansen and Alison Hernan-Garrigan, is playing there. Hopefully, tickets are fairly cheap. Eh, what should I care? I'm not paying.
If you've made it this far, I'll shut up now. Enjoy the rest of your day/week, and please accept my priorly-mentioned apologies. If not, well...ye're not to be blamed. ;)
