oceans and poker nights.

cold winds feathered sharply through my clothes as the sounds of the city flowed past me, deliquescing and disarming, syncopated by the bounce in my step and the hammer in my head. i noted how fall rarely trickled in anymore, but the weather had been strange for the past couple of years anyway. slouching along, my walking companion fidgeted with his belongings: a cigarette and his gigbag, the latter which housed a well used electric bass.

i dream-walked of oceans and poker nights, of good books and the oh-so-sweet smell of a woman's neck. my associate handed me one of my vices and i nodded in acknowledgment - soon red sparks catalyzed my toxication and i felt myself slow to hindering pace. we rounded the corner to my house and regarded a neighbor with a faint greeting as he faded into yesterday. the door closed behind me and i exhaled the last of the city within me.

it's been awhile since i noticed things like this. where have i been?
