So I ran across two articles that interested me, one about
British actors at the Toronto Film Festival (I still can't get over Benedict with platinum blonde hair, but the whole WikiLeaks thing interests me so I'm going to go see that movie regardless, plus I found out there's a third movie I can look forward to other than "Osage County") and another from my favorite comedy site (Cracked.com) with
actually helpful exercises that will help you write better. It isn't often I rec articles but here you go. The writing one is especially interesting. I think I'm going to try some of them while writing my original novel.
Speaking of that, I sent off the prologue and the first two chapters to one of my coworkers who was interested in it, and I forgot who else wanted it. So if you'd like to read it, leave me a comment and I'll forward the .zip file to you. Here's a synopsis in case you forgot:
"Patricia is the 'elven born' in this generation of her family, and that means one thing: magic. She can fly (or rather, float), she can speak to the dead, and when she tries hard enough she can travel great distances and sometimes travel through time. Her great-great grandmother tells her that when she becomes an adult she will be able to do things no one could imagine. On her eighteenth birthday she discovers the ability to cross dimensions, and years later she goes to one where all her literary heroes were real flesh and blood people, and that dimension's modern-day relative of Sherlock Holmes takes an interest in her. But with heroes come villains, and with power comes responsibility, and Patricia must fight to keep what she wants safe."
