Israel gets its own Green Building Standards

Well, like they say, two LEEDs are better than one, right? So, this new standard, "Israel Standard 5281", serves as a tool for achieving the aims of green building. It includes a set of criteria and requirements for granting "green building" status to residential and office buildings and consists of four components: energy, water, land and other environmental subjects including waste, air quality, noise, transport, etc. Like LEED, compliance with the standard is determined by a point system, with threshold requirements for each component. A cumulative score of 55-75 points grants a building a "green building" label, while a cumulative score of more than 75 points allows it to be certified as an "outstanding green building." The Ministry of the Environment is currently promoting the drafting of a green building standard for hotels and industrial buildings as well.
