Abortion is the killing of a child. This child, regardless of the state it is in, is in every right human. The question at hand is what is life? After we have a clear depiction of what life is, we can then figure out if the embryo is alive. Thereafter, we can decide if it is a human being or not... and why abortion might be needed in contemporary life.
So what is life? Is it conscious thought? Within the first two weeks an embryo grows their own brain cells and form layers that will be the nervous system, the heart and other layers. By the third week the heart is beating and they function with their own spinal cord and brain. Scientifically, the embryo is alive at conception. It grows and feeds, in a similar form that a parasite would. In America, abortions are legal up unto the first trimester. By the time of the first trimester’s end a child’s bones undergo ossification (bones become hard), has unique facial features, can quite possibly hear, and develop a sense of taste. So in summary, the embryo is a living organism that has human DNA with the potential to grow into a fully functional human being.
The embryo is biologically, and consciously alive. The next question is, can we consider it an actual human life yet. The embryo has human DNA, but so does cancer. The only difference is that cancer will, in theory, does not have the potential to become another human being. Also, and embryo’s DNA is unique unto itself. Although the embryo might be a mass of living cells compared to an average adult, a newborn child out of the womb cannot ride a bike or throw a football as an adult would be able to. There are significant differences in all stages of life, and though each stage is different it makes them no less of a human being.
Abortion has it’s place in cases where the mother’s life is in danger, though. It’s just as any person has the right to protect themselves if threatened with a knife, regardless if it is their child or not. This does not mean that it should be a woman’s choice to have the child or not. It is a human life, regardless weather it is in their womb or on the floor. Should parents have the right to kill their children if they decide they don’t want to raise them up unto the age of 18? In cases of rape, adoption is always an option. It may lead to a life that many would find… unfashionable for the child, but if the life of that child is taken away then it has no chance to decide for itself whether or not to live it’s suitable for their needs. In that aspect, let’s kill all the homeless people and all the diseased people because they have a horrible life. Beethoven came from a family of diseased children as well as a sick mother. Would he have been a good candidate for abortion?
Let’s wrap this up. Abortion has it’s profits where the mothers life might be in danger, though has no place elsewhere. It is human, as human as you or me. So think, who’s life is it anyway? It’s not the mothers… or the fathers. It’s the child’s inside the womb… and once you take it away you can never reclaim it.
