First time poster- eventing with baby

Sep 22, 2011 08:38

Greetings! It's my first time posting here as I kind of dropped out of using LJ since my son was born last year, but I"m trying to get back to it.
I've been super busy with working full time, having a 3+ hour commute and still trying to work on projects and participate on Royal Retinue. It's been even more difficult as my beloved has lost interest in the SCA so I either bring my son and deal with his care solo, or if I'm booked with lots of responsibilities I leave him home with daddy.

So far I've been really blessed as there are a lot of people around us who love babies, and my son specifically. I've been able to ask in advance and get help in 1-3 hour increments at events so I can still participate in other ways as well and know that I won't be stuck or be scrambling on site for help. I've also been really blessed in that in addition to what I've made him we were gifted with a very generous amount of handmade garb for him, so he's often even better outfitted than I am!! :)

I've had to shift my eventing at night to only being around camp, as I don't feel at all comfortable with leaving him unattended while he's sleeping for anything longer than a biffy run, even though he generally sleeps through the night. I've started aiming for camping with other friends who tend to socialize in camp rather than wandering so I'm not left alone if I don't feel like going to bed when my son does.

What has changed for you in how you event? Are there any tips that have helped make it easier?

In joyous service,
Raffaella
