Hello, this is wook77 with this month's LGBT news segment. October 12th was the 13th anniversary of Matthew Shepard's death. We've come a long way since he died but we still, obviously, have a long way to go. Recently, Lawrence King, a gay kid that was shot during class in front of multiple witnesses, didn't receive justice. His killer's trial ended in a mistrial when the jury couldn't decide whether the case involved hate crimes and first degree murder or if it was a case of voluntary manslaughter. Whether it was procedural issues or the defense's 'gay panic' defense, the case will be winding its way through the court system, again.

Jamey Rodemyer, even after committing suicide, continues to be bullied at his school, one of the suicide clusters for LGBT youth in Michelle Bachmann's district. Three of his bullies face felony charges where, hopefully, the court system will provide some sort of justice for him.

However, not all is negative. Jamey Rodemeyer's suicide prompted Zachary Quinto, Sylar from Heroes or Spock from the most recent Star Trek movie, came out in a series of touching posts and interviews.

In other positive news, MTV is currently trying to break a world record in support of the Trevor Project. They're hoping to have their team dance for over 55 hours with only a five minute break every hour. Good luck, folks.

Senator Kirsten Gillibrand has introduced a federal bill in the US to support gay families adopting children. Recent studies have come out about how inequality creates stressful and harmful situations for children of LGBT couples.

Finally, the country of Uganda is pissed off at Britain for insisting that all countries receiving British foreign aid should respect LGBT rights. UK Prime Minister Cameron is threatening to revoke any and all future aid from the country because of their poor stance on LGBT rights, including recent ploys to make homosexuality not only illegal but punishable by death. Britain has already pulled some aid from Malawi because of their stance on LGBT rights. Personally, I'm glad to see that it seems like they're backing up their rhetoric with action.

And that's it for the news segment for Episode 24 of Slashcast.
