For those of you at RUM this isn’t a surprise - but I’ve finally gotten my paper on underwear in the Maciejowski bible to the point that it’s readable. It’s not polished yet; there’s extra stuff I wanna add… but it’s been more then a year since I started the analysis, and if past behavior is any guide it’ll be at least another year until I update it to the point that I want it to be at… so I’m willing to share it now.

(This is the paper I was burbling about
oh-so-long ago that has p-values and a statistical analysis of hose/tunic color combinations *so geeky!!* The statistics are the basis for my argument supporting knitting/naalbinding for women’s socks.)
Things I’d like to add:
- I’d really like to put in some compare-and-contrast construction pictures for the braies; all I really know right now is I don’t like the first option I tried. I’m not sure how helpful it is to show different potential patterns without being able to show what they look like.
- I’d like to add step-by-step construction pictures for the hose/socks “patterning” method I describe.
- I need to add a construction section for the shirt & shift section. I ran out of time before RUM…
- I need to polish the bibliography; there’s a bunch of stuff footnoted that I don’t list in the bibliography… *bad sunny, no donut!*
Of course, working on it means I now want to go onto the next topic; the outerwear. Some of the questions I want to answer:
- What color tunics are paired with what color surcotes? (This is a men’s fashion question - I don’t think there are any women with surcotes…although that’s something to look for!)
- Are some colors more frequent for men’s long tunics vs. short tunics?
- How common are men’s long tunics vs. short tunics?
- What are the common tunic + tunic lining color combinations?
- What color women’s gown is paired with what color cloak?
- How common are cloaks? Is there a difference in frequency between men and women?
- Can any conclusions be drawn about when the different shoe styles were worn?
- Shoe color frequency? (Although this may not be all that interesting - I think there are only 2 colors of shoes, black and brown, and they’re predominately black, by a huge margin)
- Is there evidence for pattens? How much?
- What are the different headwear options? What is their relative frequency?
- What are the accessories? (belts, pouches, broaches, etc.) What are the styles (if there’s any variation)? How common are they?
Ok. That list is intimidating. *hides* Have I forgotten anything?
P.S. I'd like to thank the super-wonderful
gwacie for posting this paper!!
