I was walking downtown at noon yesterday when I was asked for some spare change. This is a normal occurrence in downtown Fredericton, but it got me to thinking. I figure that if someone is asking for the money, they need or at least strongly want it. I want to help people, and I'm well-off enough to help a little bit.
I should mention that there's one guy in particular,
cmf knows who I mean, that I will never give money to. He's just a scary individual. In general the panhandlers here are not scary at all.
So here's my question. What's your opinion on panhandling etiquette? Suppose I have $2-$3 I'm willing to give. Should I spread it around the three or four panhandlers I'm likely to see in a lunch hour, or give it to one and pass on the rest?
