Bartolomeo Dardi's School of Fencing, and the "'Opera Nova dell'Arte delle Armi'", circa 1536

Bibliodyssey
has
a great article up about the Bartolomeo Dardi's School of Fencing -- a 16th & 17th century style of fencing which bridges the historical gap from Meidiaevil hack-and-slash fighting and the more elegant rapier systems of the 17th and 18th century -- with woodcut illustrations from the book.
The entire Achille Marozzo treatise on the Dardi School,
the first edition of the 'Opera Nova dell'Arte delle Armi' from 1536 is available online here.
What I find fascinating is the similarity of some of the unarmed self-defense techniques with classic Eastern Martial Arts joint locks and throws.
