We did Xin Jia(1) Chen Shr Taiji(2) YiLu(3) for the first time in 6 months months, and went through the first few moves with tons of detail. I learned a lot of stuff that I NEVER KNEW.
No wonder my Chen form sucked.(4)
-----
(1) "New Frame". Created by Chen Fake slightly before the turn of the century. There are actually several different New Frames out there. I think our style is a lot prettier and more practical than Lao Jia (Old Frame), but it hurts us in tournaments -- no body does our style of Xin Jia, so unless we are very perfect, we tend to get low scores in competition.
(2) "Chen-family style Taiji" (Tai Chi)
(3) "First Form." We do the 81-posture form, also called the Long form, as YiLu. For the curious, ErLu (Second Form) called Pao Chui (Cannon Fist).
(4) BTW, I highly recommend learning a form correctly the first time. Because there is NOTHING MORE BORING than re-learning a form from scratch. Especially one that hurts as bad as Chen Taiji (due to low, crotch-stretching stances).
