I have been pickpocketed in New York, and my credit cards taken on a 3 day shopping spree.
I have had my wallet stolen... only to later have my license and social security card returned to me, sans any credit cards or cash.
Yet so far, this one has pissed me off the most.
I have been waiting way too long for an almost $200 rebate to come in the mail. If you have done any type of rebate program in the recent past, you probably have also realized that they are cheap and have chosen to send you checks via postcards. No envelopes. Just a check, on a card, that also has your address... for everyone to see.
Today I called to check on the status of this and they told me "it has cleared the bank". After fighting with the telephone site, which was obviously staffed with robotic individuals who can't stray from their script, a supervisor said there was nothing he could do. I screamed and am now waiting for a copy of the check that was cashed in the mail.
Was it my postman? Very possible, because nobody else has access to our mailbox. That is, unless the postcard fluttered in the wind at some point and someone brought it to a check cashing place.
Someone though, posed as me at the bank, and the bank didn't pay attention (do they ever?) and simply cashed the check.
I hope whoever it is enjoys the money that I should have right now. IF I do get a copy of this check, and I see it was cashed somewhere locally... you know all hell is going to break loose.
