The long and winding road

One of the submissions I have out is to Dream Agent #1. Dream Agent #2 asked for the full today (also a resubmit). This brings the total manuscripts out up to 7.

One thing I've learned about numbers is that they don't mean squat. They are nice indicators that the query is catching attention, but every single one of those agents could pass, and I know to hold the high hopes in check. Still, it is a welcome change in responses from a season ago when no one seemed to be looking at anything.

I'm actually getting really good feedback (as in helpful) on the inkpop site. Here's a comment from a fifteen-year-old girl that touched me more than any other I've received. Ever.

"I read the first two chapters and I really like them. I have OCD myself and it's nice to see it represented realistically; I don't think I've ever read anything that did it as well as this, actually. The storyline is fantastic too and I like the other characters. Really looking forward to reading more of this...great job! :D"

That actually brought tears to my eyes because it was the strongest validation I've had yet that my writing has the potential to touch people. From an unpublished writer POV, that just rocks.

I'm currently ranked #8 on the site, which is cool. I have two more weeks to try to break the top five and have the chance to be seen by the Harper editors. If I don't make it in the top five this month, then I will be bumped up into it the next month (assuming my ranking doesn't drop before then). Then I'll have to try to sustain that spot until the end of January.

So, just more news from the road.
