Writing weekend was great - 12,000 words and almost finished the book. Veeeeeery rough, but now the fun starts, right?
Here's a Monday Morsel (a little thought/exercise on writing) - haven't done one in a while. This comes from The Creative Process by Burke and Tinsley.
Choose a passage in your writing that contains a number of -ly adverbs. Think of each one as an unfinished simile...Experiment with different ways of completing the simile, and see if one of them won't serve in place of the adverb. For example:
He scanned the room nervously...nervous as a mouse in captivity...He scanned the room like a nervous mouse.
Okay, it's pretty rudimentary - but sometimes we need to remember those basics. Have fun!
