It has come to my attention that some of you don't watch Doctor Who, new series or classic. Therefore, my latest GIFspam means little to you.
For these people I have prepared a short lesson on the new series.
Today's class is on Series 1.
Ok. Lesson 1. THIS is The Doctor. Not 'Doctor Who', just 'The Doctor'
Now. For those of you who don't know, the Doctor is an Alien from the planet Galifrey. His thing is to travel through time and space as a tourist, constantly getting into trouble and saving people. Recently there was a war between the Daleks (we'll get to them later) and the Time Lords of Galifrey. The Doctor ended said war the only way possible - to kill everyone on both sides. He is the last of his kind because of this.
Lesson 2. THIS is Rose Tyler
See, Traveling through time gets lonely. SO the Doctor travels with companions. Rose was a typical 19 year old Londoner.
THIS is her mum
THIS is her Boyfriend
One day she gets into trouble from some living plastic aliens disguised as mannequins. The Doctor Saves her
She then, returns the favor
And as a result, gets invited to be a companion.
Ok, well her initial reaction wasn't as enthusiastic.
See, funny thing, the Doctor's Time Machine - The TARDIS (that's Time And Relative Dimention In Space) Is well.... Bigger on the inside.
MUCH Bigger. It's actually more like an entire living labryinth inside that police box. But, in the new Series, we only have seen two rooms.
ANYWAY, on to the journey...
The first place he takes her is the year 5 Billion AD - The end of the world.
Then they go to the past, where they meet Charles Dickens. The Doctor TOTALLY Fangirls.
Well, Rose decides to make a trip home and the Doctor accidentally takes her home one year after they left. She's been listed as missing by the police.
And her mum is non too happy to see the Doctor - the man who she claims abducted Rose.
Then. all hell breaks loose.
Caused by these aliens. The Slitheen.
To stop them, The Doctor blows up Downing Street.
Rose and the Doctor leave again, this time on better terms. They then visit the US in the near future where someone is collecting alien bits. Including the last living Dalek. He's been rendered harmless (for a bit) so... the doctor takes the opportunity to vent over the war.
Dude. Don't taunt the evil pepperpot. It's tacky.
After the Dalek gets free and kills a bunch of people, it has it's moment in the sun.
Then, commits Suicide.
Afterwards, THIS twit, Adam, Joins up.
And... almost gets them killed. He gets sent home soon after with a hole in his head. Don't ask. He did it to himself.
They go visit Rose's dad, who was killed when she was a baby. That goes REAL well.
Then They end up in WWII During the London Blitz, where they meet..
THIS Guy.
Captain Jack Harkness. Don't be deceived. He may LOOK like a soldier, but he's actually a con man from the 51st Century. He's also omnisexual. What's that, you say? Well I believe John Barrowman the actor once said he (Jack) will screw anything with a hole. Male, Female, Human, Alien, Plant, Animal, Vegitable, Mineral... You get the point.
Anyway, he tries to work a con on the Doctor and Rose. Many people get zombified, but in the end, they all are restored, including one genuinely dead person. That's right. A Who ep with a POSITIVE Mortality rate. (Ignoring the Blitz casualties of course) They do happen folks.
Jack becomes a good guy, and joins up,
He quickly takes a liking to both the Doctor and Rose.
OK, Onto the season finale. Basically, the Daleks have returned. Don't ask. They always survive. They are about to enslave/destroy future earth. The Doctor, seeing no way to survive this, tricks Rose and sends her home.
Rose, however, can't bear to let the Doctor die. Jack, however, faces death bravely and gets exterminated while defending the earth.
Rose, now in 2005 UK, uses a massive truck (Driven by Mickey) to rip open the TARDIS and look into it's core.
This gives her god-like powers. She pilots the box back to the year whatever (I forget and I'm not looking it up) and dissolves the Daleks.
She also brings Jack back to life. More on that in series 3.
There's just one problem. The power is so great it will kill her if she doesn't let it go. OK, Two problems. Second problem, she can't just let it go, someone has to take it from her. That someone, is the Doctor.
But the power is too great even for the Doctor. So he dies instead.
BUT WAIT!
IT'S NOT THE END!
See, The Doctor is a Time Lord, and they have this THING. Rather than dying, they change their bodies and Regenerate into a new person. So....
Out goes Nine (This was the Ninth OFFICIAL incarnation of the Doctor)
And In comes Ten, played by David Tennant.
There! Don't you feel more knowledgable? That concludes Series 1. I did leave some stuff out, but that's ok. If you have any questions just ask.
Cheers!
