Fic updates: The Fic That Would Not End has ended! I finished my fic for
crossbigbang on Monday. It came out to about 70K, not allowing for the fact that a certain number of sentences are written twice, once in English and once in not-English, because everyone knows that writing anything involving Firefly is just an excuse to swear a lot in Chinese. I am huuuuuugely thankful for the internet, which has provided me with a way to gloss translations via alt text. Would be more grateful if I had been putting the code in all along, but no, I had to be lazy, and now I am going to be coding for the whole two weeks until my posting date, I'm sure.
fandom_helps: still kind of stalled? I anticipate bouncing back and forth between this and my
scifibigbang fic for the next couple months, as usually I have trouble focussing exclusively on one fic. (Seriously, people, I have no idea what the hell happened with Sleep of Angels, it was a tornado and I was a kite. And my muses are all but what about these sequel-type things?!?!; and I'm waving my arms saying, no, no! different fic! switch gears! come back here!)
scifibigbang: is moving some. I've been getting some writing done at work, which may or may not last. I'm going to try to be a bit less bulky with the plot on this one (I mean, the other one was Veronica Mars/D.C.U.: there was no way the plot was not going to mutate into a monstrous, world-eating leviathan). But seriously: focus on important events, large time-jumps, fewer characters.
It's good to know that I can not only produce that much text, but do it near deadline, and have it actually be a finished thing. There are (shorter) sequel ideas bouncing around in my head, and maybe ficlets interstitial to Sleep of Angels itself; but this fic is completed. And I enjoyed doing it. And if I could do it once, I can do it again, maybe with an actual novel. It's encouraging, anyway.
