My dad’s hobby/sport is sporting clays. This is a year-round, outdoor sport. While he/we does/do live in Florida, he says his head gets cold in what little winter we have. Also, his grandchildren (my nephews) live in Indiana (he flies up to see them every six weeks or so), so he does have rather frequent exposure to cold weather.
He told me he has lots of hats, but none of them keep his ears warm without also covering up his eyes, or getting in the way of his peripheral vision. When I offered to knit him one, he joked and said that some of his hats were pretty nice; it’d have to be special/unusual. I think this one meets those criteria. I hope he likes it.

Side, Closeup I’m a rather tight knitter. I think I would have done better knitting this on #10 1/2 needles, instead of #10s. On the other hand, Dad’s pretty bald, so it may just fit fine. ::grin::
I would have appreciated advice/details in the directions as to what cast-on/increase to use. Technically, I think I’m not a bad knitter, my tension is good and fairly even, but I’m still beginner enough to not know what cast-on/increase/decrease to use in what situations.
(Doesn’t a styrofoam ball on a CD spindle cover make a nice model? ::grin::)
