It had been what felt like ages to Bark since the last time he set foot on campus of Sumabura. Some of the most memorable times of his life happened here, in these very buildings, on this very grass. Bark almost dropped his bookbag as he ran up to the boggled-looking cat. He did not need to be reminded of how much taller he is than she, and neither did she! Right? Because she was the Blaze he knew and loved? Right? And she was already familiar with how big he was?

"Blaze!" He waved at her as he strode right in her direction. "Blaze! It's me! Bark!! Wait up!"

Bark stopped in his tracks. Something wasn't right here.

"Um... yeah, you should. It's me, Blaze. Bark! Bark the Polar Bear! Your..." His smile slowly melted into a look of sad disappointment. "...boyfriend..?"

A few gears started to click and she realized what was going on.

"...Oh! Oh... Knuckles told me about that," she explained. "I'm sorry, but... I'm not your Blaze. I just arrived here."

Sad polar bear is very glum.

"You're not? How is that possible? You look..." He resisted the urge to step closer and touch her arm, since it had been so natural to him in the past. "...just like her."

He kicked a rock and twiddled his thumbs a little.

"I just arrived here, too. ..Again, I mean. I used to be a student here a while ago. Do you need help finding anything?"

"He explained that people come from throughout the time stream to this place," she tried to explain. She knew this had to be hard for him and she felt really awkward. She was never good at this kind of thing.

She hesitated. She wanted to say no, that it would be a terrible idea given the past relationship he had with an alternate version of herself. But experience with Marine taught her that being blunt tended to have the opposite effect she wanted. So she tried to be a bit more tactful. "If you could... point me to the headmaster's office?"

Bark rubbed the back of his head. He looked away shyly. "So... we... I mean, between you and me... we... never....?" He was hoping she was only repressing old memories, but whether this time stream thing was true or not, if she didn't remember him, then she wasn't his Blaze, period, and he should avoid treating her as such.

"Ah. Straight ahead along this path." He gestured down the sidewalk they were standing on. "The first building there is the main office, and they can set you up with appointments with the Head Masters if you haven't one already. If you do, then... um, well..."

He outstretched his hand nervously.

"Good luck, and I'll see you around. All right?" He smiled at her.

"Thank you..." She knew it was the right thing, but seeing that look on his face didn't make it any easier. She felt guilty, and she hadn't even done anything wrong.

"Yes... To you too," she said. She gave him a small smile back, reaching out to shake his hand. "Perhaps we'll see each other again soon."
