SUDDENLY, CHILDREN. Standing behind this mystery miscreant. (Mystercreant?) And watching that oh-so-messy R. Gosh, that is a very familiar R. But surely this cannot have any relation to Team Rocket, right? This unfamiliar chap isn't even dressed like a grunt. It would be foolish to assume! Perhaps this dapper fellow is simply writing out his name.

"...Does your name start with an R?"

The very mysterious fellow indeed turns around, nearly dropping the can of spray paint and making the 'R' look more like a 'Do not park' sign.

"Hey well lookit ya done now! Ts'totally messed up!"

He reached up and brushed a little of his hair out of his eyes, then leaned close and squinted at the equally mysterious girl.

"Why'd my name start with an R? Did someone tell ya it does... did? ...does?"

"Well, if I was gonna write something all over a building, the first thing I'd think to write was my name."

Unless he just... really, really wanted to convey his dislike for the letter P. She cranes herneck over this mystery boy's shoulder, gawking at his messed-up message.

"Or... actually, I'd just write 'school' on it so everybody knew it was the school. But that doesn't look anything like an S. ...It doesn't really look like any letter now, to be honest. I think you might need a little more practice at this."

Golbat glances back at the failed graffiti. It really didn't look like an R at all anymore.

"Well this is my first time with hands n'stuff ya know, so I'm thinkin' I'm pretty darn good a'this."

He grins and holds up his hands, wiggling his fingers for emphasis.

"Your first time with hands?" Gosh, what a strange thing for a person to say. Maybe they just had something else. Like... they worked as a sports team mascot, so they had to wear giant foam Krabby pincers all the time. Or... OR THEY HAD HOOKS FOR HANDS.

"Did you used to be a pirate?!" What brilliant logic. Ladies and gentlemen, Lyra Sinclair.

Congratulations, Lyra, you have elicited a look of complete dumbfoundedness from said mystery man.

"A.. Pirate..? Like.. The kind that steal stuff'n say.. Arr n'stuff?"

Come to think of it, Team Rocket did steal stuff. And Proton did say their logo was an Arr... Or R... Same thing.

"Yeah! You know, scurvy dogs, walking the plank, bird on the shoulder? Pirates! I mean, that'd totally explain the hands thing. You musta just had hooks! ...Or peg-leg hands. Peg-hands."

Golbat momentarily looks down at his hands and curls his pointer fingers to make hooks. Well yeah, when he was a Golbat he only had one "finger". And.. They were kind of like hooks.

"Oh man. I guess I was a pirate then... Uh.. Matey."

...Why did Proton never tell him they were pirates?

"Whoa, awesome! I've never met a real, actual pirate before! How come you stopped being one? Do you wanna start being one again? I wanna try being a pirate, too, so we can try it together! You can totally show me how it's done!"

Oh man, was Lyra pumped. She held up one of her own hands, mimicking Golbat's hook-finger gesture.

"Hey, do you think I could get a hook, too? Or maybe just an eyepatch, even! ...I bet I'd run into stuff a whole bunch, though. I dunno how people manage with just one eye. Maybe I can get a hook or a patch for something I'm not using a whole bunch. Like... I'll get peg-toes or a bellybutton patch. Are those piratey enough?"
