I'm in the process of teaching myself Japanese, and occasionally I challenge myself to take on some fun projects instead of burying my nose in dusty textbooks all the time. This, my first real challenge, is my attempt at translating vistlip's song "NIGHT PARADE" from the "STRAWBERRY BUTTERFLY" single.
If you see parts that are incorrect or can be translated more clearly, please comment! (But since I'm trying to learn, please try to explain why. ^^)
NIGHT PARADE / vistlip
from STRAWBERRY BUTTERFLY (2010.5.12}
Lyrics: TOMO
Music: Yuh
Kanji:

English:
Did you want to escape?
Did you want to die?
Becoming that kind of you*
A ticket isn’t necessary from
your spirit’s call as it is
LULLABY
Come, the parade begins in gunshots & shouts
LULLABY
A one-legged woman is made to dance ballet and
LULLABY
A one-armed maestro leads an orchestra with a knife
LULLABY
A one-eyed doll sings a song with sewn lips
Now it starts
The private party
I want to hear those words
‘Stop it!’
Did you want to disappear?
Did you want to kill?
Becoming that kind of you*
Selfish unreasonable brat
You don’t know
LULLABY
Come, the parade begins in gunshots & shouts
LULLABY
A one-legged woman is made to dance ballet and
LULLABY
A one-armed maestro leads an orchestra with a knife
LULLABY
A one-eyed doll sings a song with sewn lips
Come on, it’s a party
Entertain the honored guests
Who wants to come next?
As you wish
I wonder who you are who forgot even being born?
LULLABY
Come, the parade begins in gunshots & shouts
LULLABY
‘Goodbye.’
Let’s tell the guys who hugged us
LULLABY
‘Good night.’
To kiss the lips that sang
LULLABY
‘Thanks.’
The one-eyed clown laughs with a torn mouth
Now it starts
This gate is the exit
Do you want to cry your eyes out and then gently caress?
Now then, shall we come back
to your beloved world?
If you understand, it’s already alright
*The lyric is written貴女, but the lyric when sung is あなた. Kijo seems to be a literary second person form of you (feminine) that isn’t widely used. It may also have the connotation of demoness or devil woman.
