“Look, Spike,” Buffy said, delighted, “ a shooting star!”
They were huddled together on Giles’ roof-which was shingled and quite hard to huddle up on, but the two of them had significant core muscles-looking up at the starry sky.
“Make a wish, pet,” Spike said.
“But I already have everything I could possibly want,” she said. “You by my side.”
They smiled at each other before turning back to look at the dot of white streaking across the night.
“Dru used to stargaze indoors,” Spike said dreamily. “She had a whole galaxy in her head. Her own galaxy.”
“Spike!” Buffy huffed, inching away from him, which was hard because, shingles.
Spike blinked and realised what he had said. “Oh, I’m sorry, sweetums! I’m sorry, I wasn’t thinking.” He reached for her and after a moment, she melted against him. “I didn’t mean anything when I talked about Dru.”
“Okay,” she said, though she still felt annoyed and jealous, and those feelings made her say, “I know Drusilla was a big part of your unlife. You know, Angel taught me the constellations.”
Spike growled, “I don’t want to hear about bloody Angel. Ah-ha. I wish I didn’t have to hear about Angel ever again.”
“And I wish Drusilla was dead! I mean. You know.”
“Only one of us can wish on the star,” Spike growled.
Buffy leapt up, balancing perfectly. “Fight you for it, honey.”
They grinned.
