Prompt: A Creepy Tangle in the Bermuda Triangle (AU)

One of the prime feeding grounds for any vampire is 707 miles into the ocean. No one expects to get out of the Bermuda Triangle alive-that is, no one is unduly surprised when they do not. Spike likes cruising the scene when he needs to get to places, but he really prefers the other hot spots; people here are stringy and old, else too tough, and he likes a good fight, which can’t be had here since very few have wised up to the fact that there are vamps to fight on the Bermuda Triangle. But Dru has a hankering for the place, so they’ve camped here, ship to ship for three months and counting. Spike would follow Dru to the ends of the earth; in this case it feels like he has. The most excitement that can be had here is violent waves. And Bingo.

He’s at one of these Bingo sessions, surrounded by the smell of thin blood and powder as ever-present as salty breeze, when Dru bursts in. “Spike! Oh Spike, my prince, my salt.” She takes his arm and pulls him out onto the deck, where it is raining. She looks deep into his eyes and he feels himself falling into hers, dark, pooling. “We must go.”

He grins. “Yes! Yes, luv, it’s about time. Any longer and we’d be mouldering like those oldies. I reckon it’s contagious. This boat docks in… two days; I think that’s our best bet, no need to jump ships.”

“No, Spike, now.” She pulls him to the side, where the wine ocean roils greedily against the white hull.

He resists. “Hold up there, pet. Let’s not jump into the big angry sea. I… don’t think we can swim to land as fast as this ship can sail it, yeah?”

Her eyes are hard, angry and impatient, unusually sharp. “There,” she says, pointing with her whole body in the way she does at the closest ship. “We’ll dance to yonder deck. Just get off this ship, too much light here, too much sunshine. We’ll burn, Spike. You’ll light.”

He tries to embrace her but she’s wild, all angles. “Sshhh, Dru, hush. Look, the sky’s crying coz there’s no sun, so don’t worry. There’s nothing to burn me.”

“Is she okay?” comes an unfamiliar voice from just a ways away.

He looks up. The rain dampens his sense of smell but he can smell the blood pumping through the girl’s veins-delicious stuff. Blonde, short, something in her eyes. It can’t be. Could he be so lucky? “Yeah, she’s-”

Dru begins to scream.

He gathers her up, his hands tangled up in her long wet hair, like seaweed. “It’s fine,” he whispers. “Don’t worry, I’m here. It’s nice and dark. The waves are roaring-drowning the voices, yeah?”

“Fly away with me,” Dru whispers back, lifting a hand to his cheek.

A cough. Spike flinches. The girl says, “Sorry. Just, wow, a little period drama here, huh?” Her hand’s on her hip, fingers an inch from her back pocket. Spike tenses. “So what’s a vamp like you doing on a cruise like this?”

“Spike,” Dru whispers up, “Spike, let’s fly away.”

“In a minute, Dru,” he says, letting her rest on the cold metal rails of the ship. “Let’s take care of this little bird first, shall we? It won’t take a moment. I promise.”
