“Ghouls, ghouls, everywhere,” says Buffy.
“And they stink of what they eat!” Dawn adds excitedly. She grins widely and looks between Buffy and Spike for approval. Or disapproval. Buffy’s not totally sure what Dawn’s opinion is of her own sense of humour at the moment.
Spike shakes his head.
One of the ghouls frowns and says, “Aw, come on. Smell yourself. Who do you think would want to devour your flesh with a stench like that?”
Dawn pouts. “I’m only wearing deodorant.”
The ghoul gives the most horrifying laugh Buffy’s ever head. Like a hyena that’s trying to cheer itself up about choking to death on a rusty saw blade. He elbows his fellow ghoul buddy who laughs with him.
“Disgusting,” says the other ghoul.
Dawn scowls.
Buffy elbows Spike. “Can we kill them? Are they actually evil?”
“Hey, we aren’t evil,” says Ghoul Three. “We help decompose your dead. We an important part of the life cycle of this planet.”
“Oh, like maggots,” says Dawn.
“Everyone loves maggots,” says the first ghoul.
“You so need to interact with the living,” says Buffy.
“Oh, we do,” says the third ghoul.
“They eat little kids,” says Spike.
It’s the three of them against twelve ghouls.
The ghouls don’t stand a chance.
