So, courtesy of my attempt at tumblr, I was enchanted by this gifset. And the exchange:

SPIKE: You wanna slip away for a minute, luv?
BUFFY: What?
SPIKE: I'll let you blow out my candles.
BUFFY: Here. Now? I don't think so.
SPIKE: Oh, what, you worried about Richard? You don't wanna make your new boyfriend jealous, huh?
BUFFY: (grinning) Shut up. He's ... sweet.
SPIKE: (teasing) "Oh, shut up, he's sweet."
BUFFY: Maybe he's not the jealous one.

Spike looks surprised. Buffy moves past him and away.

SPIKE: You think he'll take you out on his ten-speed, pet? (to himself) Maybe he'll let you ride in that little basket in the front. (scoffs) Jealous my ass.

I think there should be some sort of development of this, somehow.

I've seen in fics the idea that Spike and Buffy walk so that each covers the other's weak side. it makes sense, but I never considered whether it was canon. But on page 4 of your Tumblr, there's a gifset of Spike and Buffy walking side by side, and it seems to be true. (Even when they were technically enemies in S2!)

Ha! Ack, that's such a good point. I'm going to start looking for that now. My favourite thing I've noticed is that the pair of them from S6 onwards (and especially in S7) seem to end up wearing these matching outfits, like they were meant to look good together/obviously planned their ensembles unconsciously to match each other...

Exactly!!! The place I didn't expect it, though, is at the start of First Date, where they're out in the cemetery and Buffy's wearing this beanie-peacoat combo and Spike is similarly decked out in comfy black and sludge-colour. They look like they're in a music video for a tween band or something.

Oh yeah, First Date! They look so cute and I adore her in that cloche (I think it's a cloche rather than a beanie, it looks to be made of felt with a shaped crown and slight brim - the hat she wears in Becoming is more of a beanie. I may pay too much attention to that stuff. Costume history being my hobby.)

Oh yeah! You are right. When I was looking at it before it looked like it was ribbed and woolen, with the hem(? I'm suddenly blanking on what you call the end of knitted things) rolling up the way you got knitted things doing in 2003.

I call it edging but I haven't knitted in years. I looked again at the caps and you're right on the rolled brim; and it looks like a flower ornament in the same material - yes, I love hats.

speaking of, when did the hat fetish switch from Willow to Buffy? I recall her wearing quite a few hats, mostly plain winter caps, through S6 but I don't recall any in S5.
