'Ragnarok and Roll' by Quinara (PG-13)

Oct 27, 2012 20:01

So, this prompt came out the way it was always doomed to - with a Final Fantasy VIII crossover! There is literally no need to have ever played Final Fantasy VIII, because Spike never has either.

Rating: PG-13 just for Spike swearing a lot.
Setting: AtS Season 5, but a bit AU, plus FFVIII disk three, as you might have guessed from the title.

Sometimes I'm witty.

Btw, I think abandoned usually starts with an 'a'.

I know, I've just been fixing typos (can you see any more? I had 'through' instead of 'though'!). The minor flaw with this USB keyboard on my lap is that I can't really see what's going on on screen...

I haven't finished yet. I'm doing three things at once. I will let you know.

That wasn't a call for you to go through with a fine toothcomb! (And, yes, I know it's fine-toothed comb, or something like that, but that ain't how I say it though.) Just in case I'd blighted you with any other howlers.

Good! Because I didn't! (I'd say fine toothcomb too).

(Does anyone say it the other way?)

Dunno, they'll have to confirm that themselves.

Is 'bobbing idiot' a typo? Or am I missing something again?

Finished now, very nice! Shouldn't a JRPG have an annoying made-up grinning creature sidekick? FF-whatever can't be properly Japanese!

That's the lack-of-gravity wreaking havoc with Spike's self-image. *nods*

Hurrah! Rinoa actually has a pet dog, Angelo, who does her limit break attacks (ie. special attacks you can only utilise after a character has been damaged enough to fill up a special yellow bar) - but otherwise FFVIII was remarkably lacking in grinning sidekicks. It was the 'artsy' one, where the main design brief was about showing off the latest developments in the graphics (or as far as the late nineties got, anyway), so there was a strong push towards realism.

Oh some familiarity with the game might have helped there.

There's a dog, that's probably enough for criteria. Realism has never seemed to bother the Japanese before (or since).

I say explicitly that they turn it off!

The best part of the FFVIII is the gunblade, which is a sword with a gun combined it it, so you shoot people as you slash at them. It's a terribly sensible weapon that everyone takes very seriously indeed.

Ah.

Isn't that just a gun with a bayonet? Sounds rather randomly dangerous to me.

Not least because, apparently, Squall just has it hanging across his back under his jacket most of the time.

He'll need to be careful about bending over then. He could have someone's eye out.
