Prompt. Ruined and Going Downhill

Note: I’ve been playing with the idea of writing a fic with a human Spike, and so when I was doing a bit of drabbling this came into being.

Learning to Live Again

Spike and Buffy sat outside on the porch.  It was like old times back in Sunnydale except the sun was shining down.  Spike's arm was in a cast and he gave it a disparaging glance.  “I’m weak.”

Buffy patted his arm.  “You’re not weak; you’re human.”

He raised a scarred brow.

She sighed.  “Okay, you’re not vampire strong.”

He looked her in the eye.  “Do you still love me?”

“Of course, I do you idiot.”

“Say it!”

She wrapped her arms around him.  “I love you Spike.  I love the vampire, the man and all your parts.”

“I never get tired of hearing you say that.”

She gave him an innocent smile.  “Aren’t you gonna ask what parts?”

He laughed.  “I really love you Buffy Summers.”  He looked adoringly in her eyes.  “I’m the world’s luckiest man to have you.”

“And don’t you forget it.”  She paused for a moment.  “Do you regret it?  Becoming human, I mean.”

“No, I don’t.  I’d do it again.  I’ll get to experience things I never had as a vamp.  You don’t have to stay in the dark with me any longer.”  He smiled at her.  “But I’d be lying if I say it wasn’t disconcerting.  It’s different - both duller and brighter at the same time.  My senses are all askew.  I don’t feel like me just yet.  I feel - I feel lost.”

Her worried eyes sought his.  “You’re not going to do an Angel or Riley on me are you?”

He shook his head adamantly.  “I respect you too much, love. I was never threatened by you being stronger than me.  It’s a turn on to be honest.”  He leered half-heartedly.

When she didn’t respond, clearly wanting more, he spoke again in a more serious tone.  “What I don’t like is being weaker than those big bads you hunt every night. I always knew I was the best one to watch your back -fight by your side.  I’m not that man any longer.”

“Oh yeah?”  You’re still very good at watching my ass.”

He chortled.  “It seems like I’m rubbing off on you.  My influence has made you a very rude girl.”

“And you’re a rude man.  But I deal with it, because you’re my rude man.”

He licked his lips.  “Is that so, pet?”

She kissed him lightly on the lips, before splaying her hand over his chest. “This rude man had a heart that beat even when he was dead.  A dead man taught me how to live.  Now I’m going to teach you.”

Thanks for reading.  I'm sorry about the highlighted text at the beginning and I can't seem to sort it.
