Fic: 'What it is to Burn' by Quinara [Spuffy; R; 3/4]

Heh, so I forgot that I find it incredibly hard to do anything when I'm in the final stages of getting a fic up to post, because apparently I really can't think about more than one thing at once. So have more! Probably the other part too a little later! Let it be said that I tried to post like a normal person, even if I failed ( Read more... )

medium: fic, character: buffy, creator: quinara, setting: post-series, character: spike

Yeah! I was hoping for an update before I had to leave for work, and you didn't disappoint!

I'm really liking this story. I particularly like this chapter; you start off with a glorious juxtaposition of the pornographic expectations of the sex tape, and the very banal reality.

“Can we fastforward, maybe?” she asked, instinctively closing her legs a little and curling more into the comfort rather than the stimulation of Spike’s arms. “Skip some? I don’t like that we aren’t talking.”

Great character moment right there. Then we segue into the nuts and bolts of a real, grow-up relationship; so much love for this!

Looking eagerly forward to the final chapter!

Yay, thank you! I'm so glad I caught you (I love my instant feedback!). And I'm really very extra glad you like my abuse of the sex tape. I got slightly worried before I posted that I was going to disappoint people.

Hope you do like the last chapter!

Well, the sex tape ended up being much more interesting than I feared. (We can all imagine the well-lit version, I expect.) The nitty gritty isn't in the pneumatics, it's in the workings of the relationship. Well done, my dear.

Oh, thank you! I think there's a place in the world for some sort of sex tape PWP (though it would take a braver soul than me to write about people watching themselves on screen in the third person any more extensively than this), but this fic wasn't it. So I'm glad you found it interesting! :)

I really like the reality as opossed to the fantasy.

Oh - this totally captured their desperation perfectly and it took alcohol to bring out the truth they are so desperately hiding from.

I loved Buffy's clarity at the end that no matter what happened they are going to be together and to hell with the long distance relationship.

Thanks very much! I think it's something of a universal truth that drunk people are never quite as cool as they think they are.

And glad you like Buffy's clarity. She has to work for it, but I think she's very capable of making up her mind when she wants to.

Aww, good Buffy. (Even if I think the wiser way to crack would be to vampnap Spike off to London. He wants to go, he just doesn't think he deserves to.)

(Angel vs. the hair gel demon: *snort*)

:D Hee, yes, I wouldn't be surprised if that option didn't cross Buffy's mind. The only problem would have been getting him through customs...

;) (I kind of really want to see that cartoon now.)

So I've just read this chapter and am in absolute awe at your character voices. They are just superb. And what a great conceit for them to learn the truth about themselves like that.

This really is a wonderful story.

Oh, thank you very much! I'll be first to confess this is a set-piece I engineered entirely to externalise what would otherwise have been a very finickety internal thought process, but I'm quite fond of it. :)

I meant to read the last chapter last night but ran out of time. I hope I can read it over the next few days.
