“Oi! Watch the leather!” Spike spun, shouting, as he pulled off his duster to brush the snow off the area that fell between his shoulder blades. Dawn sat in the glow of Revello Drive’s porch light, all shocked innocence.

“It wasn’t me! It wasn’t!” She protested. Spike scowled at her, clearly disbelieving.
“Don’t see anyone else out here to throw it, Bit.”
“I didn’t do anything! And anyway, where would I get a snowball, huh? It’s 55 degrees out!”

“Probably been keeping it in the freezer since the last white Christmas,” he turned back toward the front walk, thrusting his arm back into a heavy leather sleeve and shrugging the coat on.

“Since 1998? What am I, seven? Come on, Spike-it wasn’t me!” Dawn scampered down the steps to catch up with Spike’s longer stride, already nearly to the street.

The next snowball splattered in the back of his carefully slicked-back platinum hair.

“Hey!” Spike whirled around again, wiping at the back of his head and neck, shoulders climbing up toward his ears as freezing slushy water dripped down his collar. He rounded on Dawn, who was looking around in confusion. “Enough already. How many of those bleedin’ things you got? And I’m not fallin’ for the innocent act, so you may as well…”

“It wasn’t me, I swear!” Dawn cut him off.

“And doesn’t anyone respect the vampire anymore? Big Bad here, really. You know I ate the last little chit thought it would be fun to pelt the Spike, right?”

“What’s a chit? And I’m not little! And it wasn’t me!”

“What are you laughing at?” Buffy asked curiously from the hallway as she passed Willow’s open bedroom door. The witch was standing at the open upstairs window, giggling madly. As Buffy crossed the room to stand next to her, she caught sight of the glittering white sphere Willow was floating over her right hand and the tableau in front of the house. “Is that a… ohhh, that is just too good…” Buffy choked out, beginning to laugh herself.

“Shhh…. He’ll hear us…” Willow gasped between snorts of mirth.

“Let me… he’ll be out of sight in a minute.” Buffy took the magical snowball in both hands and leaned out the window.

“Wait till he turns around again…” Willow whispered. As soon as Spike started off ahead of Dawn, Buffy let fly.

“DAWN!!” Both the witch and the slayer dissolved into hysterics, sinking to the floor under the windowsill as Spike’s voice echoed back up the street.

“She’s gonna be so mad when she finds out…” Willow gasped, tears running down her face.

“Oh, oh, oh…. The look on Spike’s face… after that last one…. So worth it…” Buffy tipped her head back to rest against the wall, wiping away tears of her own with her wrist. After all, what was the Christmas season without a good snowball fight?
