The view from my room, basically the hotel is surrounded by trees - beyond the trees are the concrete buildings of the NEC (National Exhibition Centre), vast car parks (for the NEC), roads and other hotels.
Next to the hotel is a lake, which attracts the wildlife:
Even pigeons are quite pretty colours when you see them up close:
Only ever previously seen brief glimpses of herons as they raided our pond at home, this one just stood on the boom across part of the lake:

It's amazing how fast ducks can paddle along when you're trying to take a photo, eventually captured this mallard:
