A/N: The request was a fic where Robin and Marian actually deal with some of their issues. I had hoped to write more..and I might but I found it really hard to get into their heads ...stupid finale *grumble*

apologies for the lateness..I suck today.

pI set around 2x07, when Robin takes Marian from the castle and to the camp.

They make it to the camp just as dusk begins to fall.
She looks around her new home. It‘s small, cramped and smells like wet earth and boys, but she can‘t help but feel a little lifted by the sight. Will and Djaq smile from their space beside the fire, Much gives her a small nod before going back to bustle around the kitchen and John waves from his bed where he’s whittling a small piece of wood. It‘s warm and friendly and she leans back into Robin‘s arms and he holds her close.
‘I wish you could be here under better circumstances-’ he whispers into her neck.
She can’t answer so she squeezes his hands where they rest around her middle.
He takes her hand and leads her away from the others, over to his area of their little camp. He rubs the back of his neck and gestures to the bed. ‘We weren’t really expecting you, we haven’t a bed for you…’
Her eyes open further and she looks from him to his bed and back again. She takes a step back from the bed as if the sheer proximity would taint her. ‘I can’t…’
He looks at her, not understanding. ‘Please, Marian,’ he pleads.
‘Robin, I love you, you know that but this isn‘t proper. I know that we’re outlaws now but Robin I just…can’t-’
‘No! no, not with me,’ he explains realising what he’d been implying. ‘No, Marian, we’re not completely immoral.’
‘Sorry,’ she sighs rubbing her forehead, ‘It’s been such a hard day-’
‘Don’t, Marian, really-’
‘Where will you sleep?’ she asks rubbing the tears from her eyes and sitting herself cautiously on the edge of his bed.
‘Allan used to sleep over by Will and Djaq.’ He says in way of explanation.
‘Oh.’ She looks down at her clasped hands.
He looks over at Allan’s space, his wooden framed bed with it’s blankets folded at the bottom. When he turns back to Marian he sees the tears rolling down her cheeks and he’s beside her in an instant. His thumbs brush the tears from her face and he kisses her head softly as she clings to him.
Moments later he is surprised to hear her chuckle sadly into his shoulder. ‘What would my father think? I’m sitting on your bed, where no one can see us and you’re kissing me.’
‘Well, after giving me a firm beating, I’m sure he’d be happy just to know you’re safe.’ He muses putting his arm around her.
‘You’d let him give you a beating?’ She questions into his shoulder.
‘There are few things in this world that I’m scared of, but yes your father was one of them, I could never have fought with him and won.’
They sit in comfortable silence both lost in thought of the day’s events. Tentatively Marian threads her fingers through his.
‘Robin,’ she pauses not sure if she should say what she’s thinking. ‘I- I don’t want to be alone, not tonight.’ She doesn’t look at him as her cheeks flush.
‘Of course, I should’ve thought.' He glances around them quickly making up his mind. 'Don’t worry I’ll sleep on the forest floor, right beside you. Near but far ok? I’d be honoured to protect your honour.’ He says with a wink.
The tears shine in her eyes as she smiles softly at him, ‘Near but far.’ She echoes.
Sometimes she thinks that Robin is more like her father than he realises. She loves him all the more for it.

PII, which could occur at anytime during series 2 in which Marian is in the castle.

‘I don’t want him near you.’
‘Robin…’
‘I don’t want him near you.’
‘This has nothing to do with him’
‘This has everything to do with him.’
‘I’m here to help you Robin! To help us.’
‘But-’
‘You have to trust me.’
‘I do trust you.’
‘You have to trust me completely.’
‘I do-’
‘You don’t. There is always a part of you that thinks that just maybe I want him and not you. I can see it in your eyes Robin.’
He looks away but she pulls his face around to his.
‘It’s hard, I know, but you have to believe me when I say you. It’s always been you.’
His hands clench by his side. ‘You were interested in him once, weren’t you? When I first came back he was like your shadow. Feelings don’t just go away.’
‘You’re right they don’t! If you recall you left for five years…’
‘And I never forgot about you-’
The slap that rang out echoed through the trees.
‘Don’t you dare.’ she grit out. ‘I stood at the end if the road every morning for two years waiting for you to come back.’
‘And after those two years?’
Her whipped round, eyes meeting his, her's narrowed. ‘I grew up, Robin. Some of us had to, people were starving, my father was ill and you were gone. Life moved on without you but I never stopped caring about you. You think that every time someone returned, anytime we heard news that I didn’t end up at the end of that road again?’
He at least had the decency to look somewhat abashed. ‘I’m sorry.’
He should have dropped it there, he knows that he should have dropped it there. But he couldn’t he had to ask: ‘Why then?’
‘Why what?’ she asks tersely .
‘Why, when I came back, did you show more interest in him than me, if you cared so much?’
‘If anyone had asked me then I would have claimed that I was trying to keep in with the corridors of power, keep in with those in high places but honestly? Honestly, I liked that you got jealous. And maybe at first I encouraged it. You were gone for five years Robin, I didn’t- I couldn’t let you waltz back into my life and think that I hadn’t changed, that I hadn’t moved on. And maybe I hadn’t, maybe I was still in love with you after all that time. But you left me. And other men were interested, they were, but I couldn’t do it and it was all your fault. But then you came back and it was like nothing had changed but I had to show you, you had to know that I had changed, I wasn’t the same little girl you’d left five years ago. So yes, I played up to Gisbourne’s affections because I knew you Robin. I knew flaunting it in front of you might actually make you act, make you stand up for me, to fight me for me like you never did before.’
‘Well it worked.’
She rolls her eyes, ‘I open myself up, express my deepest feelings and that’s all you have to say?’
‘I trust you.’
She smiles with her eyes.
