I really do love This American Life. It's the annual Poultry Slam.
I wrote a check for $190 for the deposit/down payment/whatever on the apartment Lydia and I signed the lease for. When I wrote the check, I had plenty of money in my account. I had enough and then some.
Well. I used the "and then some" to buy gas and groceries and overestimated just how much that "and then some" was.
See, I don't use the register in my check book. And I really should.. it's just that I'm ALWAYS WRONG and because of that it feels a little useless. I usually have a general idea of how much is in my account.. but judging by the number of checks I've bounced over the last year, I really should probably start keeping that damn register up to date.
Anyway.
So my deposit bounced. Twice. Of all the checks to bounce, isn't that one of the worst? I'm supposed to be appearing all responsible and crap and then I can't even pay my freaking deposit.
I got the money and put it in my checking account this morning and then called and asked how many times they usually run a check before they give up and send me to financial hell. THREE, thank god.
Today, one of the things I'm getting done is updating that damn register thing using my online statement..
Back in March, I owed the city $7.13 in taxes.. the check bounced. THAT'S bad. It's time.
