Ninth Blog Post

This time, I looked at Maximilian Bode's portfolio. I looked at this website because I like the really personal feel that goes with his style and that makes his site unique. I find it really cool that he used images for each button and the little green arrows on the sides make it really obvious when you are hovering over a certain button. The site looks very simple yet still very colorful, I just don't like the fact that it's a really small portion of the browser and it is located on the corner. I also think that the way he changes the images like color wise, could make it a bit jumpy, but it works for the playfulness of his site. However, when you go to the drawn section I have a really big problem distinguising how the secondary navigation works. lt says "more", "less" and "strip". But then, when you click "more" the button changes to "less", which I don't know if it means he is going to show less work? It is really unclear. The same thing when you click "iceland" it also gives you the option for "less" so it makes it more clear here that he means yeah, showing less information but it was very unclear at first and I think that secondary navigation is really not well planned at all. Same when you click "strip" and it just moves the "iceland" button up, it's very confusing.

Also, I am not a fan of the scrolling horizontally to have the information displayed. I think people are used to the scrolling vertically and that works best. I do believe it's a good idea though that he included the navigation again at the end so the user won't have to go all the way back. There is a lot of scrolling involved so that was a good move. The contact pages as well as the bio pages are really cool because they are drawn by hand with a sharpie and it totally keeps the style and it makes it look really "illustration" oriented, which is his profession as I am assuming. I think that this site is lacking when it comes to the architecture and organization of his work. The reason I wanted to include it as a post is because I think that it's a good idea to see how other people approach the problem that sometimes coes up with making links look original and making buttons that look different from the regular box that changes color when you hover or the standard html text that can get boring pretty fast. This idea of drawing to convey his profession is very original and cool, I just think it would need a lot of work to make it look better and more professional.
