Early morning, Kyungsoon knocked on Kai’s bedroom door.
A lazy grumble peeled out of Kai’s sleep-coated throat as she stretched her arms till they flopped lifelessly above her on the pillow. “What is it?”
Her eyes slowly adjusted to the small figure crawling up over her sheets, with silky black hair draining over swollen cheeks. The dainty body settled atop Kai’s hips and brushed a few strands behind her ear, only to have more tumble forward. “I had a nightmare.” Kyungsoon whispered. “Can I sleep with you?”
Kai’s arms wrapped around the fragile frame, pulling her down by her airy pyjama's into a warm embrace where she could caress the fear out of her neck and shoulders.
“Of course.” Kai soothed, ignoring the fact they owned single beds. They'd make it work. Besides, outside the sun was already beginning to rise. The day wouldn't allow them to linger here long.
“Do you want me to make breakfast?” Kai offered, fingers skating Kyungsoon’s back so her breath evened. The feeling of safety washed over Kyungsoon steadily, further and further, until the tiny fists she curled into Kai's shirt completely slackened.
“No, let’s go out for breakfast." She suggested. "We haven’t gone out together in a while. Plus you can’t cook.”
Kai laughed lightly at the ticklish mumble of Kyungsoon's words against her chest. “Yeah, you’re right.” She kissed into Kyungsoon's ear and then shifted her onto her side so they were better situated to talk and dream. She sent a hand searching through Kyungsoon's willowish hair, pausing at her cheek to rub away any dried tears with her thumb. “We’ll go wherever you like," She promised. "Whenever you’re ready.”
Kyungsoon furled into Kai’s side with a sweet noise of gratitude and acceptance. Mornings like these were perfect, Kai thought, letting her arm fall asleep beneath Kyungsoon’s weight as she dozed off. She already dreaded seeing it end.
