Third completed drabble!

A/N: kchanlp ’s request was “Yamamoto angst” when 8059 was separated in Like a Turnip. Writing this was a cool experience since I was filling in a gap from my own fic. There’s some playing with tenses, but I hope you enjoy!

In the course of writing this outline, I stumbled upon a theme we could use to tie our fics together: the many sides of a person. Tempesto and Umaru discover each other until they fall in love, until they know everything.

Tempesto and Giotto travel to Japan, save Sakurako and is invited to her home.

Tempesto and Umaru first see each other - it’d be interesting to write a first impression scene. Then, we could each transition to whatever particular scene we’re starting with.

This in-between part is blurry, because it’s always hard to write “falling in love slowly.” I think it would be nice if Umaru is first introduced as an easy-going, instrument-playing guy that Tempesto writes off as pacifist. They could perhaps share a bonding moment over instruments (does Tempesto also play piano…?), but Tempesto definitely only views Umaru as a civilian.

Perhaps Umaru could volunteer to teach Tempesto Japanese to repay him for saving Sakurako. It’s a good way to insure day-to-day contact, and their relationship could evolve from this. Giotto could see the city with Sakurako while Tempesto and Umaru have their lessons?

I’d also like a scene, perhaps during a cherry-blossom viewing festival, where Umaru writes and recites a piece of poetry and Tempesto is touched. I’ve always liked the fact that in Japan, samurai were considered great only if they could write poetry and fight.

Somehow, Tempesto figures out that Umaru is a swordsman. There can be an abandoned dojo on the premises…? It would be interesting if they had a conversation about the morals behind taking up a weapon, and Tempesto comes to respect Umaru more than before.

You also mention Umaru giving Tempesto a green yukata…would that be before or after 24041945? Perhaps seeing Tempesto in that yukata could be the tipping point for Umaru…I assume that he’s bisexual rather than homosexual. He sometimes prefers men but ultimately wants to start a family and carry on his lineage. He may figure out that he is attracted to Tempesto, but deciding to spend his life with a man and forsake familial duty is a hard decision. And even then, he wouldn’t know if Tempesto would reciprocate. In the magic of the moment, Umaru could envision a happy future…but afterwards, he’d come down to earth and try to dismiss his feelings. Maybe that’s why he allows another man to get close to him…

Tempesto discovers Umaru kissing another man and damages his instrument. I’ve been thinking up details for this situation - Umaru could be playing on his spare because a string has broken on his original. The original is repaired and returned by the craftsman earlier than expected, and Tempesto sets out to deliver it. That way, when he stumbles upon Umaru, the other won’t have expected his coming.

They have a violent argument (it’d get blown way out of proportion by the depth of Tempesto’s feelings, I’d bet). Tempesto accidentally confesses…but runs away.

How would Umaru confront him?

I’m not sure about the timing of all this, so it’d be great if you set this on a timeline/added your own input. Is everything in character? Also, I elaborated a little on the sides of Umaru that Tempesto discovers, but not so much of what Umaru discovers about Tempesto. I’m happy to contribute, but I want to hear what you think up first. =)
