Swerte Night

Den's here in Sydney visiting for the weekend.

I was excited to see her and we had all these plans for the weekend.

For one, I wanted to eat at Pancakes On The Rocks in the City. It's a 24-hour joint specialising in, well, pancakes.

I was going to drive there too and I've never driven anywhere else other my tita's or the grocery. And let's admit it, the motorway is a bit intimidating! Not to mention I don't exactly live near the city and once you get there, streets can sometimes be a little confusing. Especially at night, on a Friday no less!

Sydney drivers are notorious for being unforgiving of stupid mistakes. But what the heck, I've got the wheel and Den's happy to be master navigator -- with the printout from whereis.com.au (which we later concluded was a very misleading direction) and the Sydney street atlas in hand.

Future note to anybody: Please never trust whereis.com.au for driving directions. We got lost in the city because it said we had to turn to this Wattle street from Parramatta road then King street then George street then to Hickson. Turns out, Parramatta road becomes George Street and dulo of George street is Hickson! So pointless sobra its direction from that left in Wattle. Bobo at hassle!

An hour and a half later, a couple of jolts and a few missed turns, we found ourselves parked just under the Harbour Bridge and amazingly, a stone's throw away from where we want to actually eat! I was most concerned about parking because I really am the world's worst parker...especially parallel parking or reverse parking. First strike of luck was when two cars left right away while we were waiting along the road. Didn't have a problem at all with parking!

Got there and we were accomodated right away. A couple of minutes later, the line to get in was really long! Both of us were so hungry and thought that the pancakes alone will not suffice so I ordered pork ribs and Den had the fish and chips. The servings were REALLY
! When our server brought in our orders, she asked us if we think we'll even have room for dessert. Surprisingly, we still had the appetite for their famous
.
The food was delish and we just talked and talked for at least two hours about EVERYTHING! Kadiri highschool mems! Hehehe. Left the restaurant at around 2am na.

Then it was definitely "feeling photographer with point-and-shoot cam by the Harbour." I was the willing subject to Den's budding photographer self.

This is my favourite among her shots. Hahaha! I call this photo: Quay-Arte.

The drive home was steady.

That was until we were halfway home when I realised my brakes were NOT working!

OHMYGOD. Total freak out moment. Super swerte we didn't go to the M4 right away when we could've. Super swerte that it was at 3am and there weren't many cars along Parramatta road. Super swerte that I wasn't driving over 60kms. Super swerte that when the brakes stopped working, we were near a petrol station. And finally, super swerte that the guy who works there was a very nice man and helped us out. He checked under the hood and concluded that we should be fine to get to Blacktown by going slow and by having the overdrive turned off.

I don't even want to imagine what could've happened had we turned that right to join the M4 straight away.

Haaaay....we were so quiet on the way home, my left hand resting on the handbrakes just in case we needed to use it. Thankfully 20 minutes later, we're home safe.

YUN ang adventure! Yun ang swerte!

Ano Den, you still gonna ride shotgun with me? You were a great navigator by the way. Ikaw ang ideal Amazing Race ka-team. Hindi mo ako sinigawan kahit paikot-ikot na tayo sa city! Hehehe. Love ya! Thanks for the photos too! Ang arte natin!
