Guess who's got a job na????
ME!!!
I went to my first interview yesterday for this preschool called Building Blocks. When I learned it was at Alexandria, I felt disheartened cos my tito and tita said it was malayo daw. It was mga 40-45 minutes travel time. I told myself na sige, trial interview lang. I won't feel bad if they don't take me cos I thought it'll be impractical to take the trip every day.
Anyway, we looked for directions and schedules sa train stations. The interview's scheduled for 2pm at Holiday Inn but we left kinda early so if we get lost, we still have time. We got off Central station then rode 1 more to Mascot station tapos it should be a 5 minute walk from there lang.
When I got there, Tessa - the lady who I spoke to - was already at the foyer. I thought hala, late ako pero the other 2 guys are still on their way pa naman daw. She looked at my transcripts and made me sign this Working With Children Check thing. Parang background check lang. I was super nervous by the time one of the guys came.
The panel were the two owners, Peter & Corey and Tessa, I think she's the director. The Peter guy was the only one asking questions and the other two listened lang. Yung mga questions super interview na interview. Stuff like, "what are your strengths?" "what can you offer to the team?" "what drives you?" etc etc...Tapos they gave me mga situational questions like what would I do if I wanted to implement this activity but I was refused...what would I do if there was no procedure for this kind of situation....just stuff like that. I was able to use my previous experience naman in California when I worked there for a while and I based some of my answers on what I actually did there.
The interview lasted about 30-40 minutes. I was sobrang nervous the whole time and I kept searching for the most eloquent words to explain myself. They seemed pretty pleased with my answers. I asked them questions also about their school and how they run it...how many kids they have on an average day...how are the classrooms divided....what's the teacher to child ratio...And parang na-like ko yung school nila from their answers cos everything is really up-to-date in terms of quality child care environment. They explained that they will be opening their Alexandria branch in September so by mid August, super busy sila with setting up the school and staff training and open house. Since the interview was at Holiday Inn, I was curious baka naman super layo ng school mismo and if I can't get there easily, I wouldn't take the job if it was offered but they said from the station, it was also a 5 minute walk to the other direction lang so if ganun lang, no problem at all! They said they'll be in touch in about a day or two. I didn't think about it so much kasi first interview pa lang naman...I'm not gonna work myself up so much if they don't call back. Pero syempre I was hoping and praying rin na God, let me have a job na. If Tessa was going to be my boss, she seems pretty nice naman.
So I was telling my parents and tito and tita what happened and my tito said if I do get this job daw, ang galing ko daw. He thought there was a good chance I'd get it if the interview took that long cos usually daw within 10 minutes they'd have the idea na if you're just wasting their time. So I thought...hmm...oo nga noh! I really wasn't hoping for it but I was happy that the interview went well and I wasn't all over the place. I have another one coming up on Thursday somewhere in Guilford.
Today was the best I had woken in months ata!!! I woke up to my mom crashing into the room saying that Building Blocks was on the phone. My tita was like, "Oh, I think she's just in the shower..." cos she didn't wanna say naman na patulog-tulog pa ako at 10am! Hahahaha! I tried to shake off my sleepy voice agad and Peter goes, "I hope you're not dripping wet!" Hahaha! He said they'd like me to come and work for them and he's posting today my offer letter and contract and information, have a look at it daw and give them a ring. Yey! I wanna jump off sa Blue Mountains!!! I thanked him and said I'll call back tapos he congratulated me.
