#1-Stop
Around and around the two went, never going straight for the other, never completely turning away. One refused to stop their game, one was determined to do just that.
Allen Walker had realized quite some time ago, that his relationship with a certain samurai had changed. Allen hadn’t realized this, however, until the change was complete and it was too late to undo the damage. A simple mission, one that had gone horribly awry, had opened his eyes. The goal was simple, get the innocence from a town where people with deadly illnesses were suddenly getting cured. The innocence was in the care of a local shaman, who was using it to heal the people who came to the cave he occupied. However, whether or not he was the accomodator was never discovered, for he had been killed when the cave collapsed. While Allen was in it.
Allen had cursed his luck, as he felt the pressure of rocks on him slowly snapping his ribs. He decided that of all the ways he could possibly die, a freak accident like this would be the stupidest. He didn’t plan to die like this, but he wasn’t expecting to be saved either. After all, on his very first mission with Kanda, the older boy had said he’d leave Allen for dead if he held the mission up any, and guess who his partner was this time? Being the clueless git he is though, Allen failed to realize that the situation had drastically changed.
By the time he felt the weight that crushed him lessening, he was already dizzy, and close to passing out, for a number of reasons. When he heard the muttered curses of his partner, he was sure that he’d been knocked out by a falling rock, because surely, Kanda hadn’t turned back to help him. He wasn’t unconscious, but he was pretty out of it by the time Kanda had freed him. He was so clearly out of it that Kanda was sure he wouldn’t remember it when he said that Allen was an ass for worrying him like that. (Of course, he also had to berate the barely-there exorcist about not making enough noise, saying that in this situation he should’ve given some indication that he was alive. He added a few other choice complaints he had about Allen to the mix while he was at it.)
Still, as cold as Kanda tried to keep his voice, his expression was another matter entirely, and even as Allen’s tired eyes fluttered with the heaviness of fatigue, he still kept his sights on the other’s relived expression. It had to be the softest look Allen had ever seen on Kanda’s face (which wasn’t saying much, really, but the fact that he looked soft at all was phenomenal.) Allen had been sure to remember it.
The fact that he had been the cause of that change was both exciting and scary. He loved that he could make Kanda change so drastically, even for a second, but the knowledge that another was pursuing him was frightening. He wasn’t sure if he wanted Kanda’s attention, though when he looked back on it, he realized he’d given the other more than enough attention himself. Allen was unsure, he often was.
And God, did Kanda hate it. Kanda knew what he wanted, and he was going to get it. But Allen kept moving forward, and then backing away just before they were close enough to touch. Kanda wasn’t indecisive, and he couldn’t stand this touch-less dance that never reached its completion.
"Allen, you know you’re bein’ a bit unfair to Yuu, right?" Lavi asked one day, Allen didn’t want to admit it was true, but he couldn’t deny it either. He didn’t mean to pull away, but every time he decided to go for it, he couldn’t help but pull back. The thought of having another important person, and having that person constantly fighting and risking everything, it scared Allen, and that’s what kept him running.

Allen was walking, and though he had a destination to reach, his mind was wandering around in space. Well, actually, he was think forward to lunch, but that’s irrelevant. Lavi had asked him to go to his room, saying there was something important to talk about. Allen wondered why they just couldn’t talk about it over breakfast, when Lavi had told him to meet him just before lunch. Or over lunch, that would’ve been nice too.
Allen turned the corner that led to Lavi’s room, but did not expect to nearly get bowled over the minute he did. He closed his eyes instinctively, as he felt the other person fall on him. He landed on his back, with the wind knocked out of him, and that person falling on top of him made it that much harder to regain his breath. He could hear someone give a low whistle from a few feet away, but he didn’t dare open his eyes yet.
"Whooo... nice. I’m good, I’m damn good. Well, I’ll just leave you two to sort yourselves out..." The person speaking was without a doubt a very self-satisfied Lavi. "Those two crazy kids, what would they do without me?" he muttered, as he walked into his own room, ready to peak out the door and spy on the two grounded teens.
Allen finally opened his eyes, horribly frightened at the realization that he was pinned under Kanda. The other boy look irritated, Allen could tell he was a few seconds away from jumping up and killing Lavi. A few muttered curses later, he realized that Allen was under him, just staring up at him with wide eyes, still a little stunned and breathless from the fall.
"Moyashi..."
Allen couldn’t help but stare, he was so close to Kanda, he’d never seen the other up close like this. Kanda’s hair, which was bound in a low ponytail, spilled over his shoulders, and his bangs brushed against Allen’s face, it tickled.
Without him wanting to or meaning to, Allen’s hands slowly started rising, as though he were going to touch Kanda’s face. When he realized what he was doing, he flinched back. Allen wanted to run, but at the same time, he wanted to hold Kanda and be held in return.
The way Allen moved back annoyed Kanda, it was the story of their entire relationship; just as Allen is in reach, even when it seems like he finally has no way out, he always manages to pull away at the last second.
"U-um...Kanda...Could you get up...?" Allen asked. Lavi had obviously planned this, the red head was trying to get Allen to confront his fear, but Allen didn’t want to deal with his indecision yet, he couldn’t.
"No."
However much Allen didn’t want it, it would seem Kanda was determined to get the issue out of the way, now.
"Eh? Ka-Kanda-"
"Stop running Allen. Just stop."
Allen had no choice in stopping.
