#1 We went to states last weekend and totally rocked the mic! In the our bout we came in 3rd place, missing 2nd by (2/10ths) of a point... but no matter, because i was so incredibly proud of each of our poets, you guys just can't imagine how well they performed! and how well they were received! I was definitely happy...
#2 We performed at Visual Fringe today, downtown in front of Oval on Orange & Pine, and that was a lot of fun, all the Say Anything Poets and a bunch of our friends...
#3) We have a slam & an open mic coming up this sunday, May 30th, it's going to be awesome so we hope to see you all there!
and with that, today's quote of the day comes with a little preface.
#4 Last night at the collective we had the pleasure of having a woman from the "Pissed Off Voter Alliance," along with a woman from the National Hip-Hop convention (sorry if i messed those up) who both spoke about organizing the youth political movement and i enjoyed it a lot... however... they seemed to have shaken things up a bit. and i just found it extremely interesting to sit back and watch two of our friends have a discussion about their views.
of course we all have similiar goals as far as peace, love, equality (and for many, anti-capitalism) but the big question is... how do we get there from here? and there stems the debate... friend numero uno was coming from a place of extreme patience, saying that we should start on an individual basis, teaching our children love and wholesome values, making changes in our every day, then the next generation or some time in the future will bare the results of our strange fruit (wink wink ;) however, friend numero dos, comes from a bit more immediate place... she wants things done right, and wants them done right now! to the outside eye, one might think her views were more on the radical side, and as i said, this was just a very interesting quasi-debate.
and today in looking for a fitting quote i found this one, and just thought it was kind of neat how as you can imagine, this quote and it's author seem to combine the qualities of both the people i was just describing...
"At the risk of seeming ridiculous, let me say that the true revolutionary is guided by a great feeling of love. It is impossible to think of a genuine revolutionary lacking this quality." - Ernesto Che Guevara -
