Ryo was kind of in a pinch. It seemed every step he took, there would be someone by his side asking ‘what happened’ . Curiosity is a human trait, but this went beyond that. The members of NEWS were curious, but they were also genuinely worried. The way Shige and Ryo were acting was not normal.

However, Nishikido Ryo was not ready to talk. He was not ready to come clean. So, up to this point, the truth had been left unspoken. But at the rate things were going, Ryo didn’t know how much longer he could keep it up.

After that episode of Shige seeing him and having a mental breakdown, Ryo did his best to steer clear of the boy. He had come to terms with what he did. He had come to terms with the fact that he raped Shige. He had to.

Nishikido Ryo knew running away would accomplish nothing. The fact that he had hurt Shige to an extent so extreme was laid out for him. Ryo wanted to fix things, he wanted things to go back to the way they were. But he knew thinking like that would only give him false hopes. The damage was done and he must accept what he did. He had committed the sin, and he was going to pay for it. There was no way around it.

Apparently, Yamapi had talked to Johnny and Ryo now found he was going to spend his entire day with Kanjani 8. He was being hugged by his kansai seniors but his mind was somewhere else all together.

Back in the NEWS room, things had calmed down. Shige was asleep on the couch with Koyama’s lap as a pillow. The youngest member had carefully laid a blanket over his friend and now sat on Massu’s lap with a worried expression. The expression brought forth the reservations of everyone in that room. His hands were clasped tightly around Massu’s; Tegoshi could not take his eyes off of Shige. He was afraid, that there would be a repeat of what happened.

Koyama looked at Yamapi for a few moments and decided the boy knew something. Leaving Shige to the other two, he beckoned the leader of the band outside. “Yamapi, what’s going on?”

The younger boy blinked at the frank question and hesitated a few moments before answering, “I don’t know.”

“Yamapi…” there was a hint of impatience in the older boy’s voice.

“Koyama, I don’t know.” Yamapi turned so he was facing the taller boy. Koyama looked down, studying those eyes for a hint of a lie. They looked genuine, but Yamapi was an actor. “Ryo won’t tell me anything.”

“Shige either.”

“I guess the least we can do is wait till they are ready. It must be hard on them.”

Yamapi’s words had hit the mark. Shige, who had been listening hugged his sheets a bit closer and snuggled deeper within the warmth. It was not just hard, it was extremely hard. Having come to terms with what happened, he had accepted the truth. Having accepted the truth, he had set himself on that rollercoaster of emotions. Shige needed time to figure out how this all affected him, to sort out the chaos inside of him. Keeping it to yourself is hard, telling someone is harder. It probably took a lot of courage to tell a truth like this, and Shige was not quite ready yet. He needed time. So, until then, the truth would be left unspoken.

The suffocating group hug had ended and Ryo was sulking in the corner of the Kanjani 8 room. Yoko stood in front of him with hands on his hips, trying to get a reaction from Ryo. He waggled his hands and contorted his face to a funny expression, but all he gained was a shallow chuckle. Yoko looked back at the group, something was not right.

A few hours had passed with people entering and exiting the room. When the door swung open once more, Ryo did not bother to look up. “Nishikido-kun?” Ryo still didn’t look up. “Um, Nishikido -kun?”
“Don’t mind him. Just say it.” Yoko crashed into the chair next to Ryo.
“Um, okay then.” The two juniors who had walked in exchanged worried glances and then turned to Ryo again, “Eto. They want you for a photoshoot. In fact, you are already late.”

Ryo got up, making sure to show that work pissed him off. “The blue room?” Ryo glared over his shoulder. The two juniors tore their eyes from the row of overturned chairs and looked back at Ryo. They nodded meekly.

Nishikido Ryo was always somewhat quiet when he walked along the Jimusho himself. Today was the worst case of that silence yet. The way Ryo’s brain worked was strange. Its reaction to the current situation was anger that could be triggered by a clattering of a pin. However, mixed within those random bursts of anger was despair. It frustrated Ryo, and when Ryo was frustrated he got angry. And you can’t forget, the pain; the physical and the emotional. As he walked down the long corridors, Nishikido did not notice the strange looks he was getting. Furthermore, he did not notice his random mumbling.

His mind in a whole other place all together, the boy almost missed the door. He stopped and turned on his heel at the precise moment a familiar voice rang out from behind a door. He remembered what he was supposed to be doing.

The two juniors had thought it unnecessary to tell Ryo, they thought of it as obvious. Ryo didn’t really care or notice because he was too caught up with his thoughts. The photoshoot was not a solo one, he had had about five this morning. It definitely was not one with Kanjani 8 because he was the only one called. If he was in the right state of mind, Ryo would have noticed as much. But he wasn’t, so he didn’t really know or care until he pulled that handle and walked into the room. This was a NEWS group photoshoot.

\\

The chatter within the big room died down, only to followed by a series of echoes. Nishikido Ryo had just looked up, and he had just stopped walking. Nishikido Ryo had decided he was not going a step farther. Katou Shigeaki had disappeared behind Koyama, the rest of the members were exchanging looks. Of course, the photographer pretended not to notice the blatant tension. “Hai! Nishikido-kun, please hurry. You are already late.” The photogapher’s voice was light and crisp, she did not mind the tardiness.

When the boy did not budge she repeated what she said, but this time with a slight tinge of impatience. The third time she was forced to say it, a frown had appeared on her face. Yamapi smiled good-naturedly as he walked towards Ryo. He said his friend’s name, adding an emphasis on the ‘chan’ and finally got Ryo to move. He guided the shorter boy by pushing him from behind. At last, the group was together.

The photographer pointed from behind the camera and designated where she wanted each of them to be. “Starting from the left: Koyama-kun, Tegoshi-kun, Yamashita-kun, Nishikido-kun, Katou-kun, Masuda-kun.” The band had started rearranging themselves in the said order, until she uttered the second to last name. Kato had one foot outstretched but he did not intend to move it any further. Shige had heard the instructions, but he decided he did not want to follow them. “Um, Kato-kun, is anything wrong?”

“No, nothing is wrong, “ Koyama answered for his friend. The oldest boy got out of his place in line and ran quickly to Shige’s side. There was a smile on his face, fake and forced, but he was used to that. He gripped the two shoulders in front of him and attempted to move the boy. Shige’s body lurched forward but his feet remained planted to their spot; he almost fell. It took a good couple of minutes of Koyama forcibly moving his friend before they were all in line. But that wasn’t good enough, "Nishikido-kun, Katou-kun? You guys are bit too far from each other.” In truth, it was more than the ‘a bit’ the photographer had mentioned. The space between the two was anything but inconspicuous.

The mood was getting worse, and neither bothered to listen to her. The atmosphere around them was almost suffocating, as the rest of NEWS watched the two members with their eyes downcast. Yamapi looked nervously at the photographer then back at his two friends. Suddenly, he got an idea. The leader of the band turned to its youngest member and whispered something. Moments later Tegoshi beamed with a huge smile and raised his hand. “HAI! I WANNA BE NEXT TO MASSU!!~~ SO, SHIGE COME OVER HERE! NE~~~?” The boy was still smiling, but even the photographer could deduce that it was fake. The youngest member skipped happily toward the other end of the line and stopped in front of Shige. He squeezed into the rapidly widening space between Nishikido and Kato, then gently pushed Shige put from the line. Koyama beckoned to his friend and Tegoshi pulled Massu closer. They were in a line, although not in the order the photographer would have like. She sighed, moving behind the camera and adjusting the distance. “Okay, 1-2-3-SMILE.” There was a bright flash and a ‘click’. The photographer checked the picture, “Smile a little bit more!” She took another picture, then a few more. She sighed, the NEWS boys were acting weird, but at least they all knew how to smile for the camera.

“Okay! For the next part you are changing your clothes. The shirts and pants are laid out on that bench over there, I’ll be back in around fifteen minutes. Okay?” She bent down to cap the lens and then bowed slightly as she walked for the door, it closed with a soft ‘thud’.

It was unusually quiet, but the boys did what they were told. Shige bent forward to reach for the bag with his name, and seconds later Nishikido bent down to get his. They both blinked a couple of times, faces just inches away from each other. Shige was the first to pull away from the awkward moment, clutching the bag close to him and turning with a shudder. He got as far away as he could, and quickly changed. Ryo, on the other hand, was more sluggish in his actions.

Yamapi breathed a sigh of relief when the two broke apart without causing any commotion. But things couldn’t continue at this rate. “Look guys, I don’t want to sound insensitive and I know it’s hard for you… but this is work.”The two being addressed turned to watch him. “This is work and we have a schedule to keep up. This is the world we live in, we have to put work first or else we can’t survive in this industry. We have to keep so many things locked up and not tell anyone for fear of causing any scandals. If you guys don’t want to tell us what is going on I have no problem with that, just know the rest of us are here for you. If you ever want to talk---“ Yamapi broke off as the door swung open. There was a loud ‘Are you ready?’ that rang out from outside of the room. The leader sighed at the intrusion and simply smiled at the two. “You are not alone,” he whispered.

If the outfits they were forced to change into were fluffy, shiny, whatever creations from hell Shige wouldn’t have noticed or cared. But he was slightly grateful that they were normal clothes. The members gathered in the center of the room and the photographer was ready, “If you could line up like ---“ She stopped, and watched the boys for a moment. “Just line up like you did before.” They obliged, and the group shoot was done within a couple of minutes. “Next up is groups of two. Nishikido-kun and Kato-kun,” the two looked up, “I had originally paired the two of you up, but if you wish to change the pairings I don’t really mind.”

A short silence settled into the room, and the person who spoke next was Shige. “I-I-Its okay. This is work, and we are professionals. We can’t let personal issues get in the way of doing our job.” The boy spoke with a meek tone, eyes on the floor the entire time. The photographer smiled slightly and motioned for them to start.

They were the first to go, and awkwardly walked into the center of the room together. “Okay, stand back to back.” The boys did so, forcing themselves to come close enough to touch. “It’s okay if you lean on each other.” They moved closer still, the smiles on their faces disappearing momentarily until the camera clicked. “Okay, now if you could face each other. “ Nishikido turned, but it took Shige a couple of seconds. They were inches away but they never looked at each other once. “Good, okay now look at each other.” Ryo tilted his head up, as Shige looked down. “Now, cross your arms.” They were instructed to keep the gaze, and as they crossed their arms, they brushed against each other and breathing suddenly got harder. “Next, Nishikido-kun, I would like you to stand behind Kato-kun.” Ryo did so, walking so that he was behind the other boy and clutched the two arms in front of him. Standing on tiptoes and steadying himself with Shige’s arms, he peeked his head out from a shoulder as directed. Ryo frowned as his heels touched the floor and he was hidden from view, the boy was shaking again. He wanted this to be over and done with, so Shige would stop shaking.

“Okay, stay there Nishikido-kun. I’d like you to repeat the same thing, only this time rest your chin on Kato-kun’s left shoulder” Ryo had a silent ‘Are you kidding me?’ moment, but he did what he was told regardless. Once again grabbing those shaking limbs, Ryo steadied himself and gently rested his chin on a trembling shoulder.

Shige gulped, he could feel the warm breath by his ear and it reminded him too much of that night. Ryo was worried, “Shige, you are shaking.” Just when the camera flashed, the younger boy turned around and pushed away. Ryo almost fell, and steadied himself to Shige’s horrified gaze. He almost hit himself. Why did I say that?

“Um, Kato-kun what is the problem?” Shige whipped his head in the photographer’s direction and smiled apologetically. He shook his head and implied all was fine. “Alright then, please get back into the pose.” Shige walked back, and unsteadily let Ryo lean on him. He was finding it harder and harder to inhale and exhale properly as Ryo’s ragged breath tickled his ear and moments of that night flashed through his mind. “Kato-kun?” Shige looked up, shivering as his ear brushed against Ryo’s lips. “Try to be a bit more relaxed, more natural.” Shige smiled politely, Are you kidding me?, and tried his best to oblige with the photographer’s request. “Almost done.”

The two boys were led to a bench and Shige was instructed to sit on the edge of it. The photographer requested his left hand to be lying on its wooden frame while his other arm hung limply at his side. Ryo was then told to sit next to him, leaning into Shige’s chest. They did this, quite robotically, and Shige curled his fingers under the bench’s edge. “Nishikido-kun, move lower so you are lying on his lap please.” Ryo stilled a moment, watching Shige’s chest rise and fall with some difficulty and then lowered himself onto Shige’s legs. He tried to not move as much, but as the photographer requested various angles from that position… Shige’s grip on the bench stiffened. Ryo tried to move gingerly, looking up worriedly at Shige as the boy stared straight at the camera with an uncomfortable smile; his knuckles were turning white. “Okay now, that’s a wrap. Can I have Masuda-kun and Tegoshi-kun in the center of the room please?”

Ryo sat up quickly, removing himself from Shige’s legs and looked at the boy. “Shige, are you okay?” The boy simply turned and stared at him before pushing himself quickly off the bench, almost falling in the process. Ryo rushed forward without thinking and caught the boy. It took only seconds for Shige to register what had happened and push himself roughly from Ryo’s arms. He nodded briefly in thanks and sped off in the other direction. Ryo sighed, slumping back onto the couch.

For the remainder of the photoshoot, the two stood on opposite sides of the room and neither talked. Since the shoots were done in pairs, they were never left alone together; the others made sure to stand in between them. The shoot was over and done with, and NEWS filed out of the room with Shige hurrying out the door at the front and Ryo straggling at the end.

The photographer put the cap on her lens and stood up with hands on her hips. She heaved a sigh, noting that the NEWS boys were especially hard to work with today. “All in a day’s work, “ she muttered.
