Ryo hadn’t shown up at work for three days now.

Yamapi was getting worried. “Ne, do you think we should go to Ryo-chan? I think something is wrong.” He looked around the room as he was met with nods and smiles. “Eto, Shige… what about you? Are you up for it?” The boy being addressed responded somewhat rudely, not even lifting his head to acknowledge his senpai.

“I’m sorry, I’m going to have to pass today.” Pi-chan smiled, totally ignoring the fact that Shige hadn’t given him the proper respect due.

“Okay. Just, if you do have some time… stop over okay?” Yamapi bent down to pick up his coat and made for the door, just before closing it he turned around. “Shige, are you okay? You can trust us, you don’t have to keep it to yourself. “ The younger boy nodded, eyes studying the dull floor beneath them. “Are you sure?”

“Yeah, I’m fine.” Shige looked up finally, an uncomfortable smile plastered on his face. He motioned for them to leave. “I’m fine.” As the door slowly blocked the other members from view, the tips of Shige’s lips tipped down and his mouth set in a thin line. The black haired boy spread his arms over the frame of the leather couch, sliding down into a lying position and using the armrest as a pillow. The boy closed his eyes, throwing his head back with a frustrated groan.

The door closed while Koyama and Yamapi immediately exchanged quick glances. “He is most definitely not fine.”

The members walked on as Yamapi threw one last glance at the solemn door, a certain suspicion forming in his mind.

They had managed to attract minimal attention as all four of them piled into one cab and got out onto a street corner. Yamapi led the way, with Tegoshi occasionally sprinting ahead. They had reached Nishikido-kun’s apartment complex and proceeded to run up the long series of stairs before they were finally standing before his door. Yamapi shoved his hand into his jean pocket, fishing around for the key. The boy pulled his hand out, key in hand.

Yamapi pushed the key into the lock, twisting the metallic edge as a click could be heard. Tegoshi immediately reached forward and turned the handle, door opening and Yamapi falling into the room with his hand still on the knob. Pi-chan got up, rubbing his side slightly and pulling the key from the lock. “Wow.” Massu said from behind him.

The boy slowly turned around and almost gasped in shock. Ryo-chan’s place was a mess, a freakin mess. Yamapi’s eyes roamed the dimly lit room (or what was left of it) slowly, before a crash jerked him out of his daze. Swiftly as he could, Pi made his way to the sound. As he navigated his way through broken glass and furniture, Pi was getting increasingly nervous. He rounded a corner and blackness stood before him. The hallway before had been lit with slight rays of sunlight that had penetrated the thick glass windows, but this corridor was exempt from any light at all.

Yamapi glanced behind him, exchanging worried glances with the rest of NEWS and walked on forward while mentioning for someone to find a light switch. Gingerly, Pi tiptoed through the silence, and tripped on some unknown object. He fell on something soft, a piece of glass cutting his flailing arm as a yelp sounded from above. Yamapi winced, then winced again as someone had finally found the light switch. The boy looked up, he had fallen on Ryo.

The kansai boy was looking down into his lap incredulously, wondering what the fuck had just happened. As the blinding lights flickered on, he made out the figure of his best friend sprawled against him. Yamapi sat up slowly, glancing uneasily at the number of beer bottles the older boy had emptied then smashed against the opposite wall. “Pi, you’re bleeding.” Yamapi nearly jumped out of his skin as Ryo spoke and directed a fleeting glance toward his cut.

“Ryo… what the fuck is going on?” The boy being addressed simply shrugged his shoulders, bringing the beer bottle once again to his lips. “Ryo--- Stop drinking!” Yamapi glared at his mess of a friend and wrestled the glass bottle from his grip, slamming it against the floor and startling all in the room.

“Ryo-tan?” Tegoshi said, in a voice barely above a whisper. ”Ryo-tan… what’s happening? First Shige, now you? “ Koyama patted Tegoshi’s back gently as the youngest boy began to shake slightly. Tegoshi didn’t understand at all, he couldn’t even be much help for his friends. What in the world was happening? Massu’s arms came around the band’s youngest member, comforting the boy as he himself just barely adjusted to the situation.

“I SAID STOP DRINKING!” Tegoshi jumped, directing his gaze toward Pi’s direction. The angered boy had wrestled yet another bottle from his friend’s hands and was glaring at Ryo, as Ryo simply glared back. After a while, the kansai boy looked away and slid lower against the wall with a sigh.

“Leave me alone Pi.” Ryo muttered as he closed his eyes and slid unto his back.

Yamapi set the bottle down carefully before turning once again to his friend, “No, I am not leaving you alone. You’re a fucking mess Ryo.” The older boy simply turned on his side, resting against his arm and ignoring Yamapi. “Ryo-chan. “ Still no response. “Ryo-chan… what in the world happened? What’s wrong? You can tell me right?”

Ryo turned so he was facing up into Pi’s face, “Nothing’s wrong.”

“BULLSHIT.”

“Well, if you don’t wanna believe me.” Ryo got up slowly, walking out of the corridor and making for his room. He stumbled slightly, falling against the wall as Koyama caught him and supported his body. Having steadied himself, Ryo continued on his way, totally oblivious to the concerned eyes following his staggering figure.

Pi got up slowly, eyeing his friend as the boy tripped once again, “Guys, you can leave now.” He went after Ryo.

“But-“ Tegoshi said, still looking in Ryo’s direction.
“Just leave…. Please.” There was something in Pi’s voice that compelled Koyama to reach out and stop the boy. They exchanged an uneasy glance as Yamapi’s eyes darted to where Ryo’s unstable figure had gotten to, then turned back to face the older boy. “He’s not the only one who’s hurting.” Koyama stiffened for a second, then sighed and nodded. He understood.

“I’ll leave this one to you.” The oldest member ushered the other two out of the apartment.

Yamapi stopped in his tracks, “Tegoshi?” The young boy turned. “Don’t worry, I won’t let Ryo-chan hurt anymore.” The youngest boy was hesitant a while, then nodded with a slight smile showing through his worry.

“We’ll take care of Shige,” Massu said with a comforting smile.

\\

“You!” Ryo turned and groaned as Pi’s face came into view, then he flopped onto the bed. He ignored the boy standing at his door and simply snuggled within his sheets. The bed dipped slightly as Yamapi crawled onto the mattress. The boy turned onto his back, closing his eyes. “Ryo-chan.”

“hmm?”

“You’re a freak.” Ryo turned around to glare at the boy, but catching sight of Yamapi’s contorted expression , Ryo instead broke out in laughter. The kansai boy turned so he was facing his friend. “See? Who laughs at being called a freak? Freak.”

Ryo continued laughing, “Your face …!!” Yamapi grinned and turned so they were facing each other.

“What about my face?”

“It’s ugly compared to mine, that’s what.” This time it was Yamapi’s turn to laugh.

“Nu-uh.” The two friends turned onto their backs, looking up at the ceiling. “OH MY GOD.”

“What?” Ryo blinked, turning his head in Pi’s direction.

“You really are a freak.” Yamapi lifted his arm, finger pointing up at a huge poster of Leah Dizon plastered to the ceiling. ”You freak, I would have nightmares from that.”

“Wait a second, are you dissing Leah?”

“Haha, I bet you masturbate to that every night.”

“I DO NOT.”

“Liar!”

The tension had diminished significantly, but it was no doubt still there. They talked and joked like they usually did, light laughter filling the air as they smiled. It all seemed so natural to be together, so soothing to lie next to each other and just be themselves. But the unanswered and unasked questions still hung in the air. There was still unease between the intervals of laughing. “Ne… Ryo-chan. Can you tell me?”

A short silence settled, only to be broken by a sigh from the kansai boy. “I can’t.” The atmosphere had just gotten a bit more uncomfortable. “Pi, can we not talk about it?”

“We can’t. If you keep on running away Ryo, you’re just gonna hurt more in the end.”

“I’m not in the mood for a lecture, Pi.”

“I’m not trying to lecture you, I’m trying to help.”

“Well don’t.”

“I can’t. Unfortunately, I care too much. Ryo, tell me.”

“No, you’ll hate me.”

“Ryo-“

“Yamapi, please. Just… let this go for now. I’ll tell you, I will. I swear.”

“Okay, but you know you can always come to me if you wanna cry.”

“Ugh. I’m not some sissy.”

“Or .. you can just masturbate to Leah like you always do.”

“Oi! Shut it!”

“But seriously Ryo, just know that I’m here for you.”

Ryo smiled, feeling just a tad bit better as he fell into the realms of the unconsciousness.
