OVER 30's WORLD concert pamphlet - Yamaguchi Tatsuya (1 of 2)
Our preferences towards music have deepened as all of us hit our 30s.
It would be nice if everyone can look forward to a grown up concert style.
Yamaguchi Tatsuya
While it used to be customary for us to hold our concerts in spring every year, we've started leaning towards this time period lately. We haven't released a CD in a year or so and we haven't had any musical activities either, but all of a sudden we're here doing recordings and concert rehearsals. Just as I thought, it makes me happy when the five of us come together for music.
It feels a bit weird to kick off the start of our tour at the Budokan when it's the venue we pretty much always conclude at, but gets the momentum going for us as members, so maybe it's not a bad thing.
Nagase was the one who came up with everything this time around from the concept to the songs, so I'm really looking forward to it. When I saw the set list, the set list that Nagase had come up with... I agreed with it easily. I think he probably gave a lot of thought to us members when he was deciding on it. Everyone's past their 30th year now, and we enjoy the music more; it seems like it's going to be an interesting show with what a concert truly feels like.
But actually, for me, concerts are done live so you never know what happens before the curtains lift, so I'm pretty nervous until it starts. When it does I just go all out, and sometimes when there's a fun tune for the bass, I even forget that the audience is even there and get lost in my own world. I tend to think too much before the real show starts though.
Of course I plan to use five strings for the bass this time around too. Out of the whole band, this is the instrument that best supports the music bassline. Using five strings allows for even lower sounds and gives off a groovy sort of feeling, it really brings the entire song together. If I play at an octave higher it also sounds really cool and melodious, but it's pretty complicated and it's easier for me to go low anyway (laugh).
I haven't thought about my essential outfits yet... It's fall now, but I think I'll wear a lot of stuff that shows as much skin as possible this year too (laugh). I'm totally okay with it. I even wear tank tops in the winter after all (laugh). Besides, it's going to be hot anyway, won't it? The body I show off during concerts is what it usually looks like. The only time I work on my body is when I've got a "Lipovitan D" CM coming up (laugh). The filmings for "Lipovitan D" are really dangerous ones, so I have to train when that happens. So maybe "My own ready-made body" would be fine for an outfit.
The five of us were assembled for the purpose of making music, but while we're really enthusiastic about it, we're also pretty laidback. To that extent, I think it'd be nice to show everyone our grown up style now that we're all in our 30s. It would be great if you can look forward to that.
With regards to our new single, "Taiyou to sabaku no bara", which is the theme song to Nagase's starring to drama, my first impression was that it was a song that wasn't powerful in a good way. An impression of a song that could just as well have been an album track. This might be an abstract way of putting it, but it felt like there was a story of some sort to it. Not only that, the coupling track this time is a song written and composed by our members, and as you might expect, it's really great to get to do a song created by your own members.
Within that, I was given the song Leader had done, "Chikai", to sing, but it wasn't until I was told that he was the one who created it that I finally realized for the first time ever. It's a piece of work where you can see that there are many facets new sides to him too. The night that we wrapped up the recording, he sent me an email that went something like "How was it? Was it hard to sing? Thanks" (laugh). We don't usually talk about that kind of thing after all. It was a situation where I was told "Yamaguchi, sing this", and it seemed that the other side was also being conscientious. Being told to "Sing this" is something that makes me really happy though. So I also got kind of weird and said "If it feels like I'm not putting any energy into the song just let me know right away, I'll fix it". (laugh). As for this song, I think it's a simple song that is straightforward with an air of nostalgia to it. That person too has a pure side to him contrary to his appearance (laugh).
I think both the PVs for "Taiyou to sabaku no bara" and "Subeki koto" were able to pull off atmospheres that suited our age. In particular, "Subeki koto" had no scenes where we were playing music, but I think it's interesting to have nothing but the members appearing onscreen. I don't know what's going to happen during the actual concert dates, but I think those two songs will definitely have their PVs playing in the back while we perform, so it would be nice if you can look forward to that too.
