[Arashi] non-no - 03/05/2009 - Messages from Others

Feb 20, 2009 16:35

This is only one page out of the 10-page spread that Arashi has in the latest issue of non-no, but I couldn't resist translating it first when I spotted m-flo's VERBAL leaving a message to Sho. XD I'll probably get to the other parts eventually-- not only does Arashi receive messages from other celebrities, they also leave messages for each other and there's just a lot of interesting talk in the article.

Comments are always love; enjoy!

non-no - 03/05/2009 - Messages from Others

We've heard from celebrities from various fields!

I saw this!
"The True Faces of Arashi"

We approached people who have close friendships with Arashi directly! What are the secrets to the true faces and popularity of these five people which only you know of?

to Matsumoto Jun
Kaga Mariko-san (actress)

With overflowing human-like appeal, an existence which I look forward to even 10 years from now

The first time I worked together with Jun-kun was when he was 14 years old. Approximately seven years later, when we met again at the scene of "Hana Yori Dango", I was surprised by the considerable growth he had gone through as a professional. Even though his frank portrayal of Doumyouji was endearing, our established roles made it impossible to come in contact with him without coldness, so it was hard (laugh). The true face of Jun-kun is that he would include me in conversations during breaks between filming despite my coming from a different generation, and shield me from the wind after asking "Isn't it cold?"; he is a person who is able to take notice of small details. He is at an important period in life right now, but how will he be living 10 years from how? What kind of a 35 year old man will he become? I look forward to it very much.

to Ninomiya Kazunari
Takahashi Katsumi-san (actor)

An airiness from which you cannot sense the effort, that is Nino's appeal

Nino has spoken to me on the same level as he would a peer since the first time we met (laugh). But even now, there is no sense of discomfort to it. He is a person with an unbelievably open mind who can interact with others regardless of age. Though he must be busy with work everyday lately, he would show me nothing but card tricks when we meet (laugh). And even though he breezes through them, I think he also puts in considerable effort behind both his work and his card tricks. But you don't get a sense of that at all, am I right? He makes light of it instead. Work, card tricks, social interaction; he has an immense capacity as a person who does all this. That is his appeal, and it is also something I can respect. Please continue to be an idol whom I can easily call from here onwards as well (laugh).

to Aiba Masaki
Shimura Ken-san (talent)

An earnestness that is "cute" even coming from another male

Aiba-kun is always giving it everything he's got. Even on variety programs, if I give the advice of "It's not just a matter of following the script, please offer your own opinions as well", he would put it into practise without fail from thereafter. I've heard that he's taken down notes of things I said when we went out for dinner together as well. Though being able to perform in concerts is an amazing thing in itself, he is still humble and honest. Even when other males see him, they would genuinely think "What a cute guy". He's well-mannered, he's not two-faced, he's an idol that properly carries a sense of "normality", a type that you don't find nowadays. Though I think you're quite busy, I will still call you out for meals and golfing from here onwards (laugh).

to Ohno Satoshi
Kida Tsuyoshi-san (writer/director/actor)

A "Dormant Volcano" whose soothing interior hides a tremendous talent

He is usually a mature person who doesn't speak much, to the point where I would worry and go "I wonder what he is thinking about right now?". But he would suddenly send me texts such as "Your picture book is great". He invokes motherly tendencies even in males like me (laugh). On the other hand, he is a talented person who can respond to the expectations from concerts, exhibitions, stageplays and other similar settings. In particular, no one can match him when he gives performances in which explosive emotions are needed. Although as an idol he may be a bit reserved (laugh), he is a person who is like a "dormant volcano" with extreme passion burning within him. What kind of Oh-chan will we see next is something I also look forward to. It would be nice if we can create a picture book or something together!

to Sakurai Sho
VERBAL-san (musician)

A good guy who is diligent and smart whether on or off! [T/N: working or in private]

To me, Sakurai-kun is a friend, yet also a younger brother-like existence. Seeing the way he keeps on improving steadily, I would feel proud of him of my own accord (laugh). As for his musical activities, there is a diligent stoicism to him when he brings his own composed lyrics and demo tapes to me and asks for advice without holding back. Furthermore, even when he's away from work, you can sense that he is extremely aware of his sense of responsibility as "Arashi's Sakurai Sho". He would keep on disturbing my living room while pursuing what he wants to do to even if it kills him, a smart and sneaky cool guy (laugh). Sakurai-kun, if you read this please send me a text immediately! And then let's hang out soon!

to Arashi
Nakashima Tomoko-san (comedian)

The gap between fun and sensuality is fantastic

The moments where I would particularly feel Arashi's radiance is during free talks. Having all the members possess compliant minds and a "let's put in more effort to make it more lively" kind of unifying power makes it possible to put even those who are working with them at ease and laugh alongside them. On the other hand, they are incredibly sexy when they're singing and dancing. I think the gap between the two is fantastic. Even when the cameras aren't rolling, all the members follow up on each other as companions and worry about their staff; you can really feel that they treat their human relations with great care. From here onwards, please maintain an existence to which people can say "Whenever Arashi appears on TV I would unintentionally watch"!

to Arashi
Matsushima Nahomi-san (comedian)

A group that gets full marks in every field

Everyone in Arashi is honest. They don't overdo on the mischief, and I think their appeal lies in their life-sized ambience. If you analyse them from the perspective of a Kansaijin, Aiba-kun, Ohno-kun and surprisingly even Sakurai-kun are the boke [T/N: the ones playing dumb or making silly comments], and Ninomiya-kun and Matsumoto-kun are the tsukkomi [T/N: the ones doing the correcting and teasing]. I also think that balance is perfect. In the variety program, what left an impression on me were the child-minder projects. Watching them tackle the challenge of taking care of children, I can feel that they are dependable and it also invokes motherly instincts in me. There was a true feeling of "These kids get full marks in every field". The five of them also give me candid advice like "Isn't your makeup kind of thick?". Please give me youthfulness checks from now on as well (laugh)!
