Gloria Riley

I was sitting in my office today when a woman came in and handed me my paystub. "PAYDAY!" I thought.

I was so excited, i decided to share it with my gmail buddies, and posted "PAYDAY!" as my status message.

No sooner did I do that, did I think... "mmm payday candy... " which lead me to think that when I was younger I used to see the PayDay candy and think of the PAYDAY game from Parker Bros. that I used to play.

I had totally forgot about this game until now. I had to look up the game just to see if I wasn't just imagining things.
I found an article on wiki about it, but apparently a version that dealt with pounds, not dollars...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pay_Day_%28board_game%29

You know if you tried to sit down with a kid who is 6-8 years old... do you think they would be interested in playing a game about money management? I was a weird kid i tell ya.

In any case, reading the rules, made me think about when I used to play it.
I only ever played the game with my ex-step-grandma Riley. She was the only grandma, the only adult really, who would play board games with me. She was my playmate for a short while (1989-1992-ish)

She used to knit and crochet, and would sometimes make me little Barbie blankets and pillows, and i would then make a Barbie bed out of empty tomatoes pack trays (They come three in a pack, and sit in this plastic tray that was perfect size for Barbie)...

We also used to play Tripoly... (The Game of Michigan Rummy, Hearts & Poker)
I used to LOVE that game. Haven't seen or heard much about that game in a while.

Anyway, Grandma Riley was great. She used to sing to/with me, and do arts and crafts with me. We used to make these ELABORATE easter eggs, with ribbon and glitter, and all sorts of stuff. She had this way of poking a small hole in the raw egg, so the inside would come out, so the decorated eggs wouldn't go bad sitting out for a while.

Speaking of Eggs, she made the BEST scrambled eggs and cheese sandwich! And she always had a plate of quartered cucumbers for me. And we used to make home-made juice Popsicles... Aw, man, the best i tell ya!

Unfortunately this great woman, was stuck in a hole in that wall nursing home, and I never saw her again. (since 1992)... I am so sad that Samantha, my half sister, probably won't remember what a great grandmother she had.

Anyway, just had that memory of her come back to me, and wanted to write it down. Thanks for reading.
