So glad classes are almost over
I'm giving a test today. I really don't mind helping students who I know work hard. However, just a minute ago, I had the following conversation:
Student: "I know you already told me how to do this problem, but I forgot how."
Me: *Explained again how to do the problem, but didn't give the answer.*
Student: "I still don't get it."
Me: "We did a few examples exactly like this in class. Do you have your notes?"
Student: "No... I do have the notecard for the test though with an example like this on there." *Shows me notecard.*
Me: "Ok good. So what did you do there?"
Student: "I don't know."
Me: "Ok, let's look through this." *Stated what we were trying to do AGAIN.* "So why did you do this?"
Student: "I don't know. I just wanted an example so I would know how to do this on the test."
Me: "If you don't understand what you did with the example, how are you going to use it on the test?"
Student: "I don't know." *Glaring at me and obviously just wanting me to tell her the answer to the review problem so she could write it on her notecard incase I used the exact same one on the exam.*
Me: *Explained it some more... still wouldn't give answer.*
Student: *Still doesn't understand but decides she's done and leaves.*
Ugh.
