yes, Arafel is a rpg character that i'm going to try playing in this Dungeons & Dragons game that Zach plays in that's run by this REALLY COOL PERSON named Andy. Arafel is a half-elf (half-human/half-elf) bard who sings and plays music as her magic, and her physical weapon is a bow. i get extra xp for drawing pictures of her and other characters. ;) i know the cat doesn't look very good, but that was my first real attempt at drawing one, so i'm very happy that it actually looks like a cat! ^_^ Anonymous is Arafel's familiar and companion.
the drawing of you and Seamus isn't that great... but it's just the outline scanned in. i didn't know how to draw you guys, so you're just kinda... hanging out, or something. ^_^;; anyway, i'm working on that Vasquez/cartoony style a little bit to see if i can eliminate the "deer in headlights" look. but i hope you guys like it anyway... it'll be alot better after i get it colored!
which reminds me that i bought a graphics tablet! XDDDD i'm so happy! *twitch!* i'm still kinda learning how it works, but i'm sure after i get the hang if it it'll be a breeze. ^_^
d00d, that's AWESOME! I can't wait to see your work with the tablet... I still feel like a child when I use mine, but after seeing what you can do with the mouse I have a feeling your CG will be like candy :D Or like this Take guy. For a long time he was my CG idol. I am not as impressed as I was at first, but I still can't color like that, so I still try and achieve it.
I think Anonymous is GOOD. I didn't say anything because I didn't realize you don't draw cats often--it looks like you practice! That's incredible--you're right, it DOES look like a cat. I draw cartoony cats because they are one of the animals I have the hardest time reproducing with realistic proportions.
I have always wanted to try playing in a tabletop RPG, but I've never done it. I never know anyone who's done it that wants to take me with them! Most of the people around here LARP, from what I can tell. I might go play at the anime store--Nate, the guy that runs it, was telling me about this funny game where they make fun of kung fu movies. I thought that sounded cool--the object is to break all the rules of gravity while you run around vanquishing good or evil. :D
Okay I talked ALOT. But really quickly: in my experience, to get rid of the "vacant" look, putting the eyebrows into really obvious expressions like disgusted, concerned, angry, happ, etc. makes them look more in focus. That's just a little trick though--there's probably more to it. I don't think they're all that vacant though anyway--I think Seamus' is a little, but he's probably fantasizing about me :D hehe Also his eyes are shaped more like how you drew mine, but I assume you were trying to make him look masculine with eyes like that, which is a good cartooning technique.
actually, it wasn't good cartooning technique. to me Seamus looks like he has smaller and more slanted eyes than, say, me, so i gave them a rectangular look to kinda make them look smaller. ^_^;;
