summary. When Sam Campbell is chosen as a tribute for the Games-an annual fight to the death between twenty-four of New Eden's unlucky children-his older brother Dean volunteers to take his place. Dean fully expects to die so that Sam can live, but once he enters the arena, Dean discovers that what's at stake in the Games is far more complicated than simple life and death, and nothing and no one is what they seem. (An AU based on Suzanne Collins' The Hunger Games.)
read this. A powerful reworking of The Hunger Games. The characters are engaging, the plot enthralling, and you'll find it impossible to stop reading once you've started. This is a great story that stays true to the themes of both canons.

summary. It's 1995, and Castiel's high school years are destined to be difficult: home-schooled until eighth grade, he is awkward, shy, and socially inept...Then new student Dean Winchester arrives at Flour Bluff High School, sharing many of Castiel's classes. Castiel has seen his type before -- handsome, athletic, arrogant, and sure to be the most popular kid in school. But Castiel eventually learns that he and Dean have more in common than he thought, and they form an unlikely friendship.
read this. I love a good highschool!AU, and this story definitely makes for a great read. I especially enjoyed the realistic growth in the boys' relationship and the deft handling of the young!Cas POV.

summary. Being a masked vigilante is difficult enough when you've got petty thieves, drug dealers and a day job as a photojournalist to deal with (not to mention trying to keep your little brother alive so his wife doesn't skin you). The last thing Dean Winchester needs is for his city to become the battlefield for an apocalyptic showdown between the forces of Heaven and Hell. But, like it or not, he's being (literally) swept off his feet by an angel and thrown into the middle of a war he's not ready for.
read this. This is an enjoyable superhero AU with wonderful shout-outs to canon. It also has great universe building, awesome characterizations, and a surprise ending that will leave you smiling wide.

summary. This is a retelling of the gothic soap opera Dark Shadows. Vampire Castiel Collins is awakened from his tomb by down-on-his-luck author Chuck Shurley. With Chuck’s help [and blood] Castiel sets out to make a life for himself in Collinsport, restoring his old home and hopefully being reunited with the reincarnation of his former lover, Dean Winchester.
read this. Another great fusion to come out of this year's DCBB. It takes on the gothic romance trope and adds D/C into it seamlessly. I especially love the way Chuck's POV is used throughout the story. This is an enjoyable read!

read this. How I love cop!Dean AUs ;) This story is engaging, with solid pacing, a great concept, and nice call-backs to canon. I really enjoyed the Cas characterization and storyline.

reccer's note. A mix of new D/C fanwork for your Thursday! Enjoy, and don't forget to check out the amazing artwork to go along with the DCBB stories. ♥
