459: the best of both worlds
reccer's note: Some of my favorite fics are ones that use multiple mediums. The following fics use both art and writing in unique ways to tell their story.

summary. John gives the boys up for adoption, and at an early age Dean and Sam are separated then later adopted into two different families, in two different states. By a chance of Fate (whose name is Castiel) the two brothers find each other - Sam’s in 10th grade, the youngest in his class having skipped several grades, and Dean, also in 10th grade is his ‘penpal’. Dean thinks the whole thing is dumb, Sam’s just glad to have a friend.
read this. This. This is my favorite fic of the lot. Don't let the summary fool you as it did me - this is very much the story of sam and dean as we know and love them. The twists will make you gasp aloud, Sam and Dean's relationship will make you sigh with happiness and break your heart all at the same time, and the art tells the story as much as the story itself. For anyone familiar with the Harry Potter fandom, this reminds me of Shoebox Project, and I love it as much as I love that.

read this. This is one of the most crack-tastically hilarious fics I have ever come across. Even in his...er... current state, if you will, Dean is perfectly Dean, Sam is perfectly Sam, and both of them will send you rolling on the floor with laughter.

read this. I am a little in love with fics that incorporate postcards, and this is no exception. Castiel is so wonderfully Castiel, learning about humanity and still relatively innocent in that regard. Be sure not to miss the sequels, as the postcards sent to Bobby are hilarious.

summary. When Ben turns thirteen and learns that Dean Winchester is his father, he runs away to join his father (and uncle). A tale where boys are boys, Vikings are Vikings, unicorns go to Candy Mountains, Dean and Sam are in big gay love, and Ben becomes a Winchester.
read this. Another postcard fic, but one I absolutely adore. Ben grows up, believably, from a boy who almost hero-worships Dean, to one who still sees him as a hero, but also respects him as his father. Also, his reaction to finding out about the Sam/Dean relationship is wonderfully believable.
