Maura wanted to see my application essay for the academy so I'm putting it up. I know "school" is capitalized. I didn't write school actually. I just put it on my twop lj and I didn't want the name of the school up so I replaced it.
I have always had a thirst for new knowledge. From the time I was very little I would get so excited by the prospect of learning something new that I would rush to tell everyone my new piece of information. School was always an enjoyable experience, and I always looked forward to talking to my friends and learning new things. That has never changed.
My family relocated to Massachusetts from New Jersey last spring. As I adjusted to the new high school, I realized that my current high school does not challenge me sufficiently. I then began investigating potential alternatives. The School's Name clearly offers me an opportunity to significantly broaden my horizons with new challenges.
The balanced program and focus on teamwork at the school are particularly appealing to me. My favorite class this year has been marketing where we work as teams to investigate and develop potential approaches to product development. I particularly enjoy the focus on broader issues than just the technical aspects of a product.
In addition math and the sciences have always been one of my biggest strengths. For example, last year my biology class took a field trip to the Liberty Science Center to see open heart surgery. While most of my friends found it sickening I thought it was fascinating, especially since I plan to major in medicine. While living in New Jersey, I volunteered at the local hospital to see if my interest in medicine offers a career choice for me. I enjoyed it so much that I am currently arranging to volunteer at our local hospital.
While science or math related activities are a real pleasure for me, I have participated in a wide range of other activities. Last year I was a member of the school book club which I thoroughly enjoyed. I was also very involved at my church. As an assistant CCD teacher for second graders I was awarded a teen leadership award from the parish. More recently, I have started learning to play the bagpipes. The lessons every Monday have become a highlight of my week.
I would certainly enjoy the challenge offered at the School. It clearly would meet my educational needs and interests. In addition, I believe my wide range of interests would make me a valuable addition to the School.
Also, TV in my room! I'll be Pretendering so hard I thought my icon would be appropriate.
