RIP Wilson
Wilson Stinner-DeSantis passed away at Wright Veterinary Hospital this afternoon presumably from mycoplasma-related complications.
I mentioned a while ago that my poor boy was looking thin, but with Nutri-Cal, eggs and yogies I managed to get his body weight back up and he seemed to be doing better. He seemed a bit sniffly yesterday night and I thought, "if he gets worse over the weekend I'll take him to the vet on Monday" (as no vets would have been open at that time except the emergency ones, and even then, it's like PULLING TEETH to find someone who will see a rat...) Today, I found him in a state of horrible respiratory distress and rushed him to the closest vet that was open. The tech took him immediately to give him oxygen when we arrived and a few minutes later the vet came into the room to tell us that he passed away. They tried CPR to no avail.
I'm glad I thought to bring Toby along to keep Wilson calm for the car ride, because he got to spend his last moments with his beloved brother (and Rebecca, who was cuddling them both on the way there). The vet looked over Toby (who went in her jacket) and said he looks extremely healthy. She didn't charge us for the visit. We are going to bury Wilson in my parents' yard.
