I was sitting on my couch reading at 1 AM when I heard some peculiar scratching noises coming from outside. Dexter got in the shutters and started growling like I have never heard him growl before. It freaked me the fuck out because I thought someone was outside trying to see in the window. It turns out that someone was a little girl kitty cat. She had her nose pressed against the glass and was staring him right in the face (if that's not a challenge to his feline authority, I don't know what is).
Fearing she might be lost, I went outside and talked to her. She rolled around on the porch and flirted with me but wouldn't let me touch her. Then she trotted off across the snow and left the apartment complex. I figured she belongs to one of the houses across the street from us and was just stopping by to harass my boys. Perhaps this happens more often than I think, and that's why they're so serious about being in the shutters.
